Oh yes...McVey. I remember when he got mad over a Marciano debate and made graphic sexual remarks about another poster's gym story from when he was a child. Implied he blew older men in the gym, sounded like projection. He quickly deleted it when he got called out as an old perv. I hope he's getting the help he needs. Weird guy.

Quarry vs Ingo is a really interesting matchup, after reading all the comments I'm not totally convinced one way or the other who'd win but I kinda think Quarry being more durable would come out on top .

Patterson seemed to improve as a fighter as he got older and in fact did his best work as he aged. The best opponents he beat (or was cheated out of a decision) was past the age of 25. He even beat a prime Bonavena at age 37 and gave a good showing against Ali in his last fight, despite giving away 30 pounds in weight.

Floyd Patterson defeated a prime George Chuvalo in Feb 1965, defeated Eddie Machen in July 1964, gave a good account of himself against a peak Jerry Quarry although the fought to a controversial draw in 1967, then Quarry won the rematch. Patterson appeared to have defeated WBA champion Jimmy Ellis on the tenth anniversary of Ingo destroying Eddie Machen, Sept 14 1968, Patterson broke Jimmy's nose, Ellis was given the verdict in Sweden.

He lost his explosive speed and confidence, he also injured his back against Ali, resulting in more cautious traditionally technical boxer puncher performances.

He was also no longer a stadium drawing heavyweight champ, more like a gate keeper at the stage, resulting in him having to fight higher quality riskier opponents more frequently, resulting in good boosts for his resume.

He was by no means better than his physical prime which was gorgeous aggressive heavyweight boxing we wouldn't see again until Tyson.

I see what you are saying and understand, he was still a very difficult opponent that spoiled some nights but not the animal Moore had to fight.

Yes. Patterson actually took time off over his back I believe, and made a comeback in 70. Bonavena is a big win for him but really the perfect opponent for him at that time. Ali was sliding hard here... Foreman and Norton fanboys just don't want to admit that lol

I am a huge Patterson fan and good to see any positive view.

But since his quality of opponents increased as he got older, perhaps that's what it was. It's easier to look dangerous and explosive vs old Moore and Tom McNeely than prime Quarry or prime Ellis

Only one opponent of Quary had more power than Johansson, which was Shavers (who's more crude), but had not the technique.

Sounds like a pretty weird thread. Do you remember which one it was?

Bottom line ,he was far from "broken down ,"and went on for a few years more beating the number 4 ranked Bonavena, and only losing a highly controversial dec to Ellis and ,in his last fight to Ali.

Absolutely not. It was several years ago with this place at its peak horror show, and the mods at the time and McVey were on a slash burn with lots of arguments deleted. No hard feelings, I just quit this place for a long time as a result, and only sporadically post now. McVey being banned full time was a positive sign this place is less chaos that brought me back part time. Lots of great posters got ran off by McVey. I just block his alts now..yes, there is more than the obvious one.

I really have nothing more to say on the drama from back then.

You mentioned the word," projection," in your earlier post.
I believe you are now practising it,no further comment to make.
