Power: Dempsey Speed: Dempsey Skills: Marciano (close, but IMO Marciano was more skilled & an underrated technician) Chin: Marciano Defense: Tie Offense: Tie (Dempsey started faster, but Marciano was more constant in his offense) Stamina: Marciano Winner: Marciano via TKO in 11 after getting dropped & absorbing punishment early.
I believe Jack would be ,"on the right track". Glass City Cobra has laid this out as well as anyone could ,so further analysis from me would be redundant.
Breaking this down by attributes and trying to solve the outcome by that math just isn't an accurate course with Marciano in this fight. He almost always lost that math, while in the ring, he always won. I see Marciano grinding Jack down after Jack takes the early rounds. He wins a decision with a KD or two, or less likely, but still possibly, stops him. Jack was at heart a 4-round frontrunner, an approach that almost always worked. But I don't see that working on the sturdy Marciano. And the return fire would be greater than anyone Jack ever faced, both in volume and power. Also, as elderly as some of Rocky's comp may have been, I am just more impressed by the likes of Moore, Charles and Walcott than I am by any of Dempsey's victims.
Anybody’s fight really but I went with Rocky. I think he fought a better gallery of fighters and showed that he could maintain high resolve and work rate into the late rounds. While both men had an excellent two fisted attack I tend to be more partial to Rocky in that department. Again however Dempsey has equal chance of taking this battle of greats.
Look, for me it just comes down to the fact that Marciano beat the best of his day, and Dempsey did not. If you have to analyze advantages, Dempsey himself said Marciano hit harder.
@Glass City Cobra has nailed this and much as I would love to rattle on about, perhaps, the greatest of all fantast Heavyweight fights, I could add nothing of value. Speed kills so I pick Dempsey.
Marciano took more punishment in a single fight than Dempsey took in his whole career. Not only that, he's modern fighter and although crude, has enough to take Dempsey out. Marciano was as brutal as Dempsey was and also had out of this world stamina, drive and conditioning. Marciano TKO6
