Ha! You like to claim that he purposely dodged a big list of savage punchers because he had an old ladies jaw. But the truth is, there was only a handful of those guys out there that really fit the criteria of being a savage puncher. There was Benn, Jackson and Gerald. Who else? Did he avoid them all like the plague?
Same reason he did not fight Collins, Nunn, Liles etc. Artur is a powerful lightheavy who can brawl and hurt Roy, but doesn't bring enough $ for Jones.
Not the old Collins myth again. Let me tell you something: Not fighting guys, doesn’t automatically constitute as being a duck. What if Artur retires without fighting Bivol? Would it be fair for me to come on here and say that Artur ducked him? You can’t just list guys who someone didn’t fight.
He would at least have the excuse of being an old man, but I would look at his actions carefully too. Beterbiev is not a diva on the same level as Jones. Going to pretend Jones did not duck Nunn? Even the biggest Jones fans have to sit down and accept the truth.
Right, so you’d look closely at things, without just automatically calling it as a duck, just based on the fact that they didn’t fight? That’s what you should always do. That would be the fair thing to do. Regarding Nunn, Roy deserves huge criticism for his handling of the situation. He messed Nunn around. First he wasn’t going to fight him, then he was and it was going to purse bids, then it was off again. Roy disrespected him. No excuses. The only thing I will add, is that I never saw it as a duck, as in - he was afraid of losing to him. Nunn was faded and the bout would have brought in peanuts. And it made no sense for Roy to duck a faded Nunn out of a fear of losing to him, when he’d pursued a Liles fight the previous year and he went on to fight Tarver 3 times over 5 years later with more at stake. There’s simply no logic in that. A guy who feared Nunn wouldn’t have done that. Roy also dropped the belt in order to fight a huge fight against James Douglas at HW, which he spoke of before Nunn had become his mandatory, where everything was pretty much set up until Roy Snr intervened at the last moment. Roy then fought Virgil Hill at a C-W before wanting his WBC belt back when he re-entered the LHW division. And at that point, he simply had to fight Rochigianni, who’d beaten Nunn for Roy’s vacant belt. But unbelievably, the WBC just handed Roy his belt back which was a complete and utter disgrace.
To Jones and his fans he is already the greatest, so nobody could be a threat (until he turned 35). Why even hold titles? Then Jones had the gall to demand the WBC belt back, which he did end up getting although the farce was considered legally void later on. I actually have which is why I mentioned Nunn, Collins and Liles but not Eubank and Michalczewski. In typically Jones-esque fashion.
Who’s said that nobody could be a threat? I’ve already said that Artur could have beaten him. I just said that at this stage, I would have to have favoured Roy. I’ve already said that Roy getting his WBC belt back was outrageous. He deserves criticism for not fighting Nunn, but not for not fighting Liles and Collins. What does Jones-esque fashion mean?
It is not a myth He didn't fight Collins Collins questioned Jones about this on a round table talks in front of other retired fighters You can find it on YouTube
Interesting how you have done exactly what you have been picked up on doing previously without even knowing what you are doing Let's look at who you have picked and why? You point to the Griffin win and mention that he beat Toney but fail to mention Toney was not looking good at lhw and coming off a loss Hill - I see you selectively didn't mention the weigh in/weight part here Tarver - some may have felt Jones lost that fight and we know once judge scored it even
It's a matter of opinion and I'm not knocking anyone's Personally I haven't seen it for years but I recall thinking it was close. Can't remember how I scored it now and that isn't important, fact is there was a valid opinion that only scored it a draw
