I think Chaplin ranks higher in an all time sense.

Rankings change as time goes by, yes but why did you say he never was in the original remark?

We're talking about a fighter who fought in the 1910s, and your own words are "He isn't and never has been the GOAT lightweight." You then imply he was overtaken by Duran by simply not saying you didn't have him number one, because you had someone else prior to him higher. Where does 'modern history' come into it?

The great Ray Arcel trained Leonard at the start of his career and Duran at the end. Arcel, despite being asked on countless occasions, never made a direct comparison or expressed a preference. It seems he saw them as equally great.
Anyone want to argue with Ray Arcel ?

Roberto Duran is the barbarian king of lightweight. Crush your enemies, see them driven before you that is what is best in life.

He is the Goat to be honest , Duran while an all time great fought lesser competition and didnt dominate like Benny did, Benny has a large gap between him and Duran!

I was not born before Duran started fighting, but after, therefore I couldn't have ever had someone else as no. 1.
Does it make sense now ?

Arcel picked Duran after he beat SRL.
Arcel never trained the light weight Leonard,he worked with him during his abortive comeback as a welter.

There is no doubt that Benny Leonard was a terrific fighter .. lightning fast, a terrific right hand, extremely well conditioned and super smart .. Manny Seamon trained Leonard and said Leonard was outstanding because her was not physically strong and he could be hurt so he developed exceptional skills to protect those weaknesses .. maybe like Pernell Whitaker who touched that spot a tiny bit .. that said , take it as you choose ..

No because I was born in 2003 and Gans is my greatest lightweight. Just because they happened before you were born doesn't mean you can't research their era and achievements.
