Rubbish! After losing to Braddock, Baer lost to Louis then beat 20 nondescript journeymen, He then lost to Willie Davies12-13-2, and beat 57-29-1 Dutch Weimer. Baer then beat Foord and lost to Farr. In his further fights he lost to Nova twice, beat Farr who was ranked and Galento who was ranked.Comiskey wasn't ranked so Baer actually beat two contenders in his 33 fights after losing to Braddock.
No he didn't, he beat 3 ranked contenders and drew with another, and stopped Terrell who was ranked a few months later,
Baer killed Campbell in the fight in 1930, which supposedly influenced his mental state a lot. All of these losses (except Kennedy) came after this situation. 1931 was the worst year of Baer's career. Wouldn't call that his best.
Who was inside top 10 when Williams beat him? Daniels wasn't, at least based on year-by-year rankings. Being ranked inside top 10 at some point doesn't mean that you are contender by the way.
That is another way of saying that he beat as many contenders after he lost the title, as Williams beat in his entire career. Comiskey was almost certainly ranked when Baer beat him, because he was #7 in the end of year rankings, which were compiled after he lost to Baer.
I have long believed Comiskey is the kind of fighter Williams should be compared to rather than all these undisputed champions from a higher level. Williams just is not qualified in these kinds of match ups.
Both big punchers but Williams had better fundamentals than the limited Baer. On the other hand Baer has the better chin. I’d go with Williams to outwork Baer and lay some serious damage on to Baer, but it goes the distance with Baer dangerous all the way through.
People call Baer limited - what makes Williams less limited than him? Some say that he had underrated boxing skills, can anybody show me examples of them? From what I've seen, Williams looks like athletic, but limited slugger with questionable chin.
