Re - read the last paragraph, where it says throughout boxing history, challengers have taken the short end for future gains! And here we go again, Whyte dragging it out even more. As I said he should be delighted he is being given a crack after the Povetkin debacle.
Why would any unbiased boxing fan be for that though. Lets just say fair enough thats how its been...what i cant get my head round is why boxing fans would be behind the idea. Surely its a case of thats a bit corrupt. The champion gets 80 percent. We,re probably all for the champion getting more but...come on man 20 percent. No one should be backing that and no one should be blaming whyte for holding up the division for being offered 20 percent.
He is definitely holding up progress with these delays. Again he should be grabbing it immediately, considering he shouldn’t be in that position in the first place. Surely the Parker, Rivas controversies and being poleaxed by a shot Povetkin are proof enough of that!
How come joyce and hrgovic etc arent fighting good names then...if whytes to take 20 percent for fury. We,re all saying man i wish joyce would get good fights...no ones wanting to fight him. Why doesnt he not take say 10 percent to fight chisora to get a decent fight? Or hrgovic take on whyte for say 15 percent.
Whyte was apparently offered 25% or 5 million plus, by Arum. It's a lot of money. Whyte's top flight career was in tatters two fights ago. He's lucky to be mandatory challenger. 80% and 20% is based on their current market value. 25% was a very fair offer. 5 million minimum was very fair.
You're getting it wrong, again. This is the business end of things, not resume pr legacy. Whyte does very impressive numbers for a guy who doesn't have a belt. Much better numbers than any non belt holder at HW, and his numbers, historically, are better than Wilders and Tysons. Neither man looks good here. Tyson's last opponent is someone who he has beaten three times, Whyte is 1-1 with a shocking KO and a dubious rematch. If Whyte can bag 80% of this purse without fighting Fury, which he has done before, why wouldnt he ask for more? He's bringing in big numbers himself, whereas Tyson has always done poor numbers in the UK. I don't think 5m is a great offer in a business regard. Is it great if you're 1-1 in your last two and one of them was you getting sparked horrifically? Of course it is! But this is business. Say its £25 a PPV, stadium fight... an 80/20 split is peanuts out of the pot. And if he's getting 3-5ms a fight anway without fighting in stadiums etc why would he take it?
Fury hasn’t fought in the UK for 3.5 years - and the last time he wasn’t even the main event. His profile is far larger now and he’d sell second to only Joshua in the UK I think.
I wouldn't go that far. I said last week the WBC opened the door towards a legal challenge due to the way they apply the rules. Did the WBC independently come up with 80-20 or was a request for 80-20 made from Arum and the WBC just agreed to it
Firstly, if Whyte beats Fury he will make considerably more than he's ever made before in his next fight, by anyone's reckoning. That's reward, motivation. Secondly, "he does great numbers" according to who? Selling PPVs in the UK isn't the same as selling PPVs in America anyway, because of price. If Whyte generates incredible amounts he will prove it and win the arbitration. But people are assuming he generates money comparable to Fury, why? Because someone told them that? Whyte showed his purses to the WBC and they were not impressed, so far. Whyte's PPV popularity probably peaked in 2018, and that was helped by the fact that Parker had just gained massive casual recognition in an AJ fight, and then Chisora stole the show with the Takam KO and made the Whyte-Chisora rematch big. Since then you have to suspect that Whyte's stock has dropped. For a start, "only one loss, to AJ" didn't sound so good to the casuals after AJ was defeated. Then, a poor outing against Wach on an AJ undercard. Then, KO'd by Povetkin, sparked out. It wouldn't surprise me at all to find out Whyte is earning/drawing less than Hearn would have you believe. Meanwhile, Fury's stock has risen. Now I don't believe for a minute that Fury's quite the attraction his promoters will have you believe either But he's a much bigger star than Whyte. Of course Whyte's a bigger draw than Agit Kabayel or whoever. That's why his 20% would be much much bigger than theirs.
The fact that we're even having a discussion where people are asking the question "what's the point in fighting for the world heavyweight title for 5 million?" just goes to show how ****ed up things have got.
Pulev was on 20% against Klitschko in 2014. He was ranked number 1 by IBF and was ranked number 1 by the independent TBR rankings and by Ring magazine too, I think. And undefeated. Tony Tucker was mandatory challenger to Lennox Lewis in 1993. Lewis at the time was coming off a big win over Ruddock but had never actually won a world title fight, had been awarded the title, and Tucker was recognised name with a 49-1 record, the only loss to prime Tyson, and was former IBF champion. Tucker was on 25%. Dillian Whyte, for all I know, is unknown to casual fans outside of the UK. This assumption that he's some sort of huge draw needs proving.
The fact that we,re happily allowing the other part to get 80 percent should really be the problem. Whytes got a problem with it and so has pretty much every guy outside of the champions otherwise why are dubois, joyce, hrgovic etc not fighting bigger names and taking 20 percent? We,re all moaning about them not getting fights....from now surely this forum should be calling each and everyone of them out for not getting the bigger fights/names taking the much lower percentage.
