An interesting (but impossible) comparison would be to put the Briggs of the Lewis fight up against Vitali, and The version of Briggs that Vitali fought up against Lewis.

It's Briggs' opinion and we can't take it lightly. However, as pointed out, these were two very different versions of Briggs, and other factors come into play, also as previously mentioned.

I'm sure Vitali was better than Lewis at some things, but the fight they had really speaks for itself. It doesn't really get any clearer than that. (And let's look at the versions of each in that fight, too.)
That's conclusive enough evidence as to who was ultimately better for me.

So you see nothing wrong with comparing a prime fighter to a guy who was pushing forty and coming off a major injury?

I'm just saying that it would be interesting to swap positions, and compare performances. Nothing more or less.

What if *gasp*....Shannon Briggs is right, not lying?

Ever considered y'all might be overating Lewis and underrating VK?

Seems I am in good company with a man who literally fought both of them and was a champion himself.

    I agree with Briggs....H2H Vitali > Lewis.

Never forget, VK was beating Lewis, and Lewis retired unexpectedly rather than rematch. Tells me all I need to know about who is better.

Vitali Klitschko is a sensation. The greatest.

Am I even remotely surprised that this thread devolved into a TKO6 discussion and an inevitable comparison between Lewis and Vitali in order to give Vitali brownie points for his paper thin resume?

    No.

Does that make it any less annoying? Once again, no.

I have a huge amount of respect for you Glass, but Foreman broke Briggs' nose.

That doesn't change the fact Foreman did not land nearly as many shots as Vitali (aside from the jab), that Foreman did not hit as hard as he did when he was younger (probably not even as hard as the Moorer fight), and that Briggs used plenty of lateral movement to take some steam off of Foreman's punches.

It doesn't change the fact Briggs was very old and a washed up stationary target against Vitali and sat there eating multiple flush bombs per round. This was not the case and was the complete opposite scenario of the young, explosive Briggs who fought Foreman and Lewis.

As for breaking a nose, it only takes 8 lbs of pressure to do that. Even a wild swinging high schooler can deliver more force than that. It's more of a feat of accuracy than an indication of amazing power. I myself broke my sparring partners nose on 2 separate occasions primarily using a jab and stopped him despite the fact he has a very good chin

Not sure I believe it, but it does break mould of fighters often saying the ‘hardest’ hitter or ‘smartest’ fighter they fought was one they beat. Well at least if we’re comparing Foreman with Vitali.

Perhaps more agreement can be found in this format. This is also in-line with Briggs comments.

All Time - Foreman > Lewis > Vitali

    H2H - Vitali > Lewis> Foreman.

If you mean H2H you're specifically referring to

Vitali>38 year old Lewis>48 year old Foreman

    Then I agree.

I don't see why we can't just believe the guy.

This isn't a situation where a fighter is glorifying somebody he beat over somebody he lost to. He beat Foreman (nominally), and lost to the other two. Fought all 3. It's not like the guy is a forum Klitschko fan (or Big George hater) with an agenda to push.

He might be wrong, admittedly. I don't know how well memories last of exactly how hard a fellow pro boxer punched you. But it isn't outlandish.
