Holmes was a relic when he fought in the 1990s, nobody stopped him either. Yeah, Cooney who was very hard hitter and Holmes who was excellent fighter. Yeah, in his twelve fight. Since then, he was stoped only once in 21 years. I wouldn't bet on Tyson stopping Tua, but it's not impossible. How many top tier punchers did Tua face? I can only think of Lennox who wasn't a knockout artist at this point of his career and preferred boxing his opponents. Who else? Unproven Ike? Punchers like Tyson, Louis, Dempsey could stop any opponent - even very durable ones.
I see why you’re saying this, but no. If Tua’s opponent started to fight lazy, he would also start fighting lazy. If Tyson did gas it would turn into a slow paste hug fest where Tyson should get the decision.
Tua fought a lot of decent punchers Nicholson Maskaev Rahman Sullivan Moorer Ibeabuchi Lewis Izon Wilson Tua had a better chin than Smith,Tucker,Tillis It's not impossible ,nothing ever is in boxing,but it is at the very least extremely unikely!
Disagree. I think rounds 8 thru 12 are very very dangerous waters for Tyson and his punch resistance. As each round goes by, the gap widens between the two and their ability to absorb punishment. And Tyson is not the same guy in round 4 as he was in round 1. Let alone round 8 or 10 where there is a decided decline in his sharpness and combination punching/accuracy. He runs out of ideas pretty early in a fight--I always thought anyway. But by far the biggest advantage for the Tuaman late is this guy is walking into his power. That and the fact that Tua is not a frontrunner and can be behind in a fight and still get the come from behind ko's. If Tua had to chase him down his job would be a full magnitude harder. But Tyson can only fight going forwards---lateral movement would help a ton in this matchup. But angles/foot movement late in a bout are pretty much non existent for Tyson as was Tua dancing on his toes. An effective right hand by Tua would help him a ton. Or the ability to dig left hooks to the body the way he does to the head. So would a strong jab along the lines of Tyson's. But that window of opportunity is there late and Tua does know how to capitalize and finish guys. At any rate--I wanted to see them fight when the opportunity was there years later. But getting DKP to co promote w/ Main Events was never easy. The other thing I always wanted to see with Tyson was having to go into the lions den against a top fighter. I do not think he is the type to handle it well and needs the cards all stacked in his favor. but the sport of boxing sure would have have benefitted from Mike taking on a guy like Tua in front of 80,000 people at a soccer stadium in Auckland. And the promoter capable of putting that together was DK.
Tyson KO/TKO in 8. You don't beat Mike by standing in front of him with no head movement, footwork or defense.
Douglas style was completely different to Tua's so that is irrelevant. Also, you picked Mike on one of his worst nights. Tua is tailor-made for Mike & likely gets stopped (or takes a beating for 12).
None of them (besides Lewis) are even in the same stratosphere with Tyson as a puncher. Come on, Rahman or Moorer...? He also had worse defense than all of them but Smith. Bonecrusher fought for survival though and he was much bigger than Tua (which helped his strategy). Do you see Tua replicating Tucker's boxing movement or Smith's holding strategy? I don't. Strong chin helps a lot against powerful, but unrefined punchers. It wouldn't help you against sharpshooters like Tyson, Louis or Dempsey. You need to have good defense and survival skills. Tua would go straight at Tyson, it'd not go well for him.
I really wanted this fight in the 90s Tyson at his best I think beats up Tua, maybe drops him and wins a decision as the fight slows in the later rounds. I know Tua could walk guys down, wear them out and catch them late, but fighting prime Tyson by the time Tua gets to the late rounds he will have already taken a lot of damage himself, especially with how their styles are going to mesh.
I called them decent punchers. Tucker went the distance with an injured hand.I pick Tyson but Tua had a better chin and at least equal power in his hook.this is no walk in the park. Razor met Tyson head on ,he did okay.
