I scored it for Ray by 2 rounds. I think Hagler's problem is coming out righty, he gave up a little of the right to talk. He was inactive again for the 2nd year since Hearns and looked sluggish, and coming out righty was a compromise which didn't give him room for an argument. It was not smart. The Petronellis had a great fighter to train,so they didn't need to really encourage him much in fights which was needed in this fight, however, Hagler's personality was not the type you get negative with.. He was a guy who knew what he knew and didn't like people saying different.
I have not watched this fight since it happened. I scored it a draw. I gave Leonard the first four rounds and only two of the next eight. I have no idea which two rounds those were. I think it's time I watch it again.
There are four criterions for judging a fight. Ring gerneralship is one of them. For the most part Ray did whatever he wanted. When Hagler got Ray on the ropes or in a corner Ray hit his way out.
Narrow win for Leonard has been my most common outcome, although I have scored it a draw once or twice.
Ray didn't do enough past round five for me to see him winning. I saw a lot of flash as well as commentators who were way too biased.
Two dozen?! What do you think of those that claim SRR hit harder or landed cleaner? I have no idea by the way, not a skilled scorer.
115-113 Hagler You don't win a fight by running around the ring pity patting, and laying on the ropes like Ray. Hagler wasn't at his best, Ray did not take the title from him imo!
The criteria for scoring a fight is 1) effective aggression 2) clean punching 3) defense 4 ) ring generalship
I still had it 115-113 for Hagler when I gave every close round I possibly could to Leonard. When I scored the fight how I actually saw it, it was 116-112 for Hagler. I am a huge Hagler fan though, so I admit that I do have some bias towards Marvin and that this is in no way objectively 100% right as it is with all fights. But this is what I saw and my observation that I'd like to share. Edit: Actually I think I scored it 115-114 for Hagler if I gave absolutely every close round to Leonard and some round a draw.
I think I had it 117-113 Hagler last time I watched. I've never scored it for Leonard. 115-114 Hagler is the closest I can get, if I bend over backwards for Leonard.
Alrighty, but should we trust a man who is not only Unforgiven, but also dead? Que pasa, Clint Eastwood finally got you?
