Ottke was a tough fighter and a decent champ.

Exactly correct. I will add that a lot folks don't realize that the main reason he fought exclusively in Germany was because he was extremely popular there and was going to make way more money fighting in His home country where he was a national champion then he would on the road. It is called prizefigjting for a reason.

As for his ability, he was an excellent outside fighter that was sound defensively. Anyone that ever fought could appreciate those aspects to his game. He was a smart fighter that fought to his strengths. With that said, he beatable.

I fail to see how ‘his Dad was a fighter and I’m guessing he probably sparred’ fundamentally changes what I said? Mundine was in no way a boxer, either amateur or professional, until 2000. To handwave how quickly he reached the level he did because of a guess that he’d probably done some sparring is surely missing the wood for the trees?

Feels like you are really understating the practice and skill required to be a championship level boxer if you think a bit of childhood sparring and then boxing seriously for 18 months is ample time and it’s no big deal to be that good that fast?

Mundine did reach a top level quickly given his experience but he CLEARLY already knew how to box.

I don't blame him in the least. Faced with limited years as a pro who wouldn't stay home if they are getting paid?

It's not only addictive it's still a mystery to me what exactly makes it's so addictive

It's a great forum but I sometimes wonder if people who post on other forums about whatever interests they have derive as much enjoyment from doing so and find it as addictive as us. Obviously there are millions who do but I just find it somewhat difficult to believe for some reason and I'm sure most of them would feel the same about others posting on a boxing forum.

This is true. Bailey remains unbeaten in the arena of debate

Likewise. But I wish you guys would dive into the current scene more though. One of the main aspects of this sport that has always intrigued me most of all is that it's the theater of the unexpected and it's the thrill and the excitement that accompanies that which separates it from other sports for me

Am I a fan of The Phantom Ottke? No he's not really my kind of fighter

But check out his amateur CV it's rather impressive

Michael Moorer - WBO LHW champion, WBA, IBF, WBO HW champ

Henry Maske - Olympic gold medalist, world amateur gold medalist, European gold medalist x 3, long reigning IBF LHW champ

    Ariel Hernandez - 2 x Olympic gold medalist, world amateur gold medalist x 2 & 1 x silver

Alexander Lebziak - Olympic gold medalist, world amateur gold & silver medalist, European gold medalist x 2, silver x 1, bronze x 2

Chris Byrd - Olympic silver medalist, WBO & IBF HW champion

Zsolt Erdei - world amateur gold medalist, Olympic bronze medalist, European gold medalist x 2 & silver x 1, long reigning WBO LHW champ, WBC CW champ

Torsten May - Olympic gold medalist, world amateur gold medalist

Vassiliy Jirov - Olympic gold medalist, 2 x world amateur bronze medalist, IBF CW champion

Juan Carlos Gomez - long reigning WBC CW champ, world junior champion as an amateur

Antonio Tarver - world amateur gold medalist, Olympic bronze, WBC, IBF, WBA LHW champ

Angel Espinosa - world amateur gold and silver medalist

Sinan Samil Sam - world amateur gold and bronze medalist, European bronze and silver medalist, world junior gold medalist, European HW champion

Andrey Kurniavka - world amateur gold and silver medalist, European bronze medalist

Egerton Marcus - Olympic silver medalist

Thomas Ulrich - Olympic bronze medalist, world amateur bronze medalist, world junior silver medalist, European LHW champ

Rostislav Zaulichnyy - world amateur bronze medalist, 2 x European bronze medalist, gold medalist at the world cup

Chris Johnson - Olympic bronze medalist, world amateur bronze medalist

Henryk Petrich - Olympic bronze medalist

Rhoshii Wells - Olympic bronze medalist

Jean-Paul Mendy - world amateur bronze medalist, 2 x European bronze

    Fought Moorer x 2
    Ariel Hernandez x 4
    Lebziak x 4
Maske x 2 (think it was even more times than that)
    Tarver x 2
    Torsten May x 2
    Tortsen Schmitz x 2
    Garbey x 2
    Mendy x 2
    Chris Johnson x 3

And his pro CV is impressive too when you factor his very late start

Unified champion, made 21 world title defences and beat seven world champions. He didn't even turn pro till he was 29 and he won his first world title in his 13th fight

    Brewer 35-6
    Mitchell 25-1-1
    Branco 40-4-2
    Reid 36-3-1
    Glen Johnson 36-3
    Mundine 10-0
    Krajnc 29-2
    Starie 33-3
    James Butler 18-1
    Larsen 43-1
    Markussen 27-0
    Tate 36-5

Great post! The guy could fight and really does have a hall of fame worthy resume. Most folks just really like their fighter's to be knockout guys which he simply wasn't. He was an excellent technician though and I guy that would be a handful for anyone.

I am confident in saying that he had a style and dedication to his craft that would trouble anyone at 168 throughout history.

Thanks. Yeah he was a skillful operator for sure and his extremely extensive 300+ fights amateur career would've put a lot of miles on his clock

 I spelled this out YEARS ago. It's called mental illness. He's clearly got a bunch of mental disorders and learning disabilities. I'm amazed people either can't see it or just choose to ignore it.

How the **** can you actually like such a creepy delusional lying cretin ?? He's a worthless, pointless troll. And he's only going to continue to annoy you.

Imagine being such a ****ing loser in life that you trawl the internet everyday looking for any mention of Roid Jones & Joe Calzaghe so you can repeatedly parrot your own nonsensical lies & delusions which have already long been proven wrong. In your 40s. With no end in sight. 10 years and counting. Unless he gets help he's destined to live the rest of his shitty miserable life doing this. Brutal.

For anyone thinking Loudunce has been quiet lately, it's because he's spent the last two years trolling casuals in YouTube comments sections, particularly on the "Joe Calzaghe vs Roy Jones Jr - Highlights" clip and "Gloves Are Off" episode. He literally cannot stop himself replying to any comment that doesn't fit into his fantasy world. TRAGIC!

At least he's finally found his level. He's hopelessly out of his depth on the forums. Especially on the Classic.

It's hilarious and cringeworthy seeing new posters going through the same routine with this freak year in year out before they realize what a waste of time he is.

The funniest thing is that he doesn't even understand boxing, has never trained in his life (he's a complete *****), and always been too thick to do any research of his own...so he has nothing to back up his lies & delusions. That's why his arguments get so thoroughly destroyed - when people can actually be bothered.

No doubt he couldn't break down and predict fights on the current scene to save his life. Imagine him trying to think critically through his delusions :roflmao:.

...and in person he wouldn't even dare open his wannabe-narcissistic patronizing mouth because he'd quickly get his fat autistic face punched in.
That's his only use; he's pretty much the perfect punchbag :headbash.
