They fought Hatton's fight in more spots than is generally acknowledged. He came off worst there, too. Mayweather had the chops to match his maneuvering in close, Hatton ruefully acknowledged as much. Sometimes a guy is just too good all around, that was the case for Ricky with Floyd. He laid it all out there, though, and had no reason to be ashamed of his performance.
Spot on. Haymon is to thank, not Floyd. He's as thick as sh!t. Props goes to Oscar, too. He took on EVERYBODY and gave Floyd a chance. Floyd deprived us of the right fights, and is still trying to be the face of Boxing today, even when he is nearing FIFTY YEARS OLD. 50 cent said he was around Floyd every day and didn't see him make money other than gambling. Also, why would anyone sponsor Floyd? He beat women, went to prison etc. Hugo Boss, Armani, Gillette, Nike etc wouldn't touch him with a barge pole. Jordan has achieved and earned more from sport than Floyd ever did.
The facts are everyone tuned in to watch him. The urban markets loved him, the establishment hated him but they all watched him.
All Hatton wanted to do was hit and hold, which is illegal and how he got his belt in the first place.
I'm a fan of Hatton and I had a lot of fun watching him, his lifestyle caught up with him eventually (For those who doubt this, do some research and note the timeline) and he doesn't get the credit he deserves from many. However, he wasn't expecting Mayweather to be the stronger man in there and it really threw him off after he made a decent start because he was completely figured out after a couple of rounds. I remember in the buildup to the fight his camp was studying Mayweather and watching his workouts and Hatton stated at one point 'oh PLEASE hit me with that' thinking he could walk through Mayweather's offense - I just don't think they were prepared for what came back at them. If Mayweather had no inside game then Hatton would have been a real problem for him, but it demonstrates his versatility in the ring and makes a mockery of the charges that some lay against him in this thread and elsewhere that he was a 'runner' and wouldn't 'fight'.

Well yes. I never disputed his popularity, I was referring to what it was based on. Very few people tuned in to see him dance and pot shot his way to dull decisions. Ironically, when he was an exciting fighter pre-147, no one could care less about him.
Speak for yourself. He was always a shining star but initially with an idiot for a promoter who failed or was unwilling to realise his true value. Floyd took matters into his own hands and the rest is history. That’s why they call him Money May.
