Who was the better fighter, Sonny Liston or Evander Holyfield?

How is Holy more durable? He was knocked out himself by a blown up middleweight. Liston didn’t “quit” or get knocked out till he was past it. Won the title as an older guy because he was avoided. Was living the good life not training as hard and partying. Like most champs he lost his fire after winning. Holy to his credit did not. But prime for prime Liston was better in every way but speed and PED use.

Have you even watched that fight? Holyfield's corner threw the towel in after he beat the count.
    Whose fault is that?
Holyfield fought better and more powerful fighters.

Holyfield had already beaten the count. Martin KTFO Liston.

Is that the Toney fight? He was well past it by then. You need to grade washed athletes in all sports on a curve

I am not denying that Holyfield was past it.

That’s absolutely Listons fault. I give credit to Holy for always training hard.

Toney knocked him out. He was done.

Holyfield did fight better fighters…and he lost to them. With the exception of a slightly out of prime Tyson and a real close controversial fight with Bowe.

That fight made me dislike Toney , the way he was celebrating beating a washed former great. On the proverbial other hand it shows fighting a faded former great has no upside. If you win you beat a past it fighter. If you lose you lost to a past it fighter.

Holyfield was probably marginally better. I would pick Liston in a fight though.

Liston fought lesser fighters and lost to all of them also. Sonny Liston would have been KTFO in every fight by Lewis and Bowe.

Even faded Tyson would have killed him.

Or been intimidated. As a fighter, he utterly lacked emotions such as fear and doubt.

Ehh no lol Think you need to watch some more prime Liston fights. I used to hold your view. But the man was a beast. Probably would have beat Frazier as an old man. They didn’t want that smoke.

Did Liston ever beat Ali? No idea who wins between Ali and Holyfield.
