See I hate betting on fights like this ..cos he's fought absolute cans ..it's on 2 weeks notice....n I'd expect Smith to walk through him in 3 16/5 for any betters watching. But there's always that danger cos he's a late replacement Smith will carry the guy abit to give the crowd there money's worth
If Geffrard can take the power he's live here. He's pretty good and was one of the main sparring partners of Beterbiev before the Browne fight. I doubt that they would fly in some bum with no chin and durability to spar Beterbiev in Canada before an important fight.
Really? I'm surprised they're bothering even televising it. Let's be honest, if Joe loses or even struggles there's going to be lots of egg on lots of faces (of pretty much anybody that ever contributed to building the hype around him).
True. But it could still be an interesting card! I'm just glad there's some boxing on TV. Do you know what time the telecast starts?
I think people will be surprised how good Geffrard is and how close he can make this - at least early on. Not saying he wins but he's probably as good as Callum Johnson minus the power. People who saw Johnson in his last fight against an old and inactive Russian grandfather will confirm that.
So you think the Artur Beterbiev camp is flying in a **** fighter like him to spar with AB for weeks in Montreal leading up to several AB title fights? Or do you think they didn't find anyone else than Geffrard? Same for other top fighters who brought Geffrard in to spar. Nah, he's good. Probably better than Callum Johnson but without the power - which might be crucial here if Smith doesn't respect him and walks through Geffrard. Saying Geffrard is **** is just nonsense. He clearly has the skills but its questionable if he can get Smith' respect and also steps it up compared to the **** level of opposition he has fought. But he has the skills. And Smith isn't exactly a gifted boxer...he's bang average skill-wise but his power and pressure are a true equalizer.
No, I think not every fighter that's brought in is there to be a punching bag. Some are brought it because they fit the dimensions of whatever opponent they're fighting in their upcoming match. Steve was probably brought in because he's 6'2 like Browne and appears to have a similar reach. Although I could be wrong, and maybe he was brought in for an earlier match. Also, some people are just borderline professional sparring partners. Regardless, from what I've seen of his, he's nothing special, he's fairly quickly, but he's not on Callum Johnson's level. Fine, Callum looked average against Emurlaev, but I doubt Geffrard would look much better against Server, who can be a massive pain in the ass when he wants to be, and a big dude, who'd just come back down from Cruiserweight. Geffrard is **** compared to guys like Eleider Alvarez and Maxim Vlasov, he's not even Jesse Hart level in terms of slipperiness. Smith isn't a great boxer compared to Bivol, sure Smith was outboxed by Barera, but there were extenuating circumstances in that match, fighting with a broken jaw can make a fighter apprehensive to engage, and remember how the first round played out before the broken jaw? Smith has gotten a lot better applying pressure, he's jabbing a lot more, is using more angles and varying up the speed on his punches as opposed to loading up on virtually everything he throws, like he used to. The power and pressure will be more than enough.
