Pick whichever you think is the best of each. Would you think it'd make any difference if Usyk had to make 200Ibs? Just curious how people feel on this.
I think Usyk is a better fighter. More talented and more skilled. Would that translate into certain victory against Vitali Klitschko ? I’m still not sure.
Both of their resumes are a bit too thin to give a definitive answer. Especially Usyk whose had less than 5 HW fights.
This is one of those things that does not come down to styles, levels, size, power, or any other logical factor. There is something of the mystical in this match-up. Everything Usyk touches turns to gold. He won his gold medal, joined the pros, and became a legend in 19 fights, as an undisputed cruiserweight and unified heavyweight champ. He's lost so few rounds that you can actually legitimately discuss each one, has never had a controversial fight, and done it all in his opponent's home towns. Vitali, as good as he was, lost to the two best guy he fought, and utterly failed to get some of the other big fights on the table to happen. He isn't a loser by any means, but he just does not have the magic touch in the same way as Oleksandr the Great. He's kind of a runner-up type. Usyk just plain finds what he needs and wins it.
This is really good. As much as I think Vitali is near unbeatable. Uzyk has that something special. Until I see Uzyk fight again I cannot be absolutely sure of the outcome. Right now, I think Vitali is smarter than most, and does not let him fight his fight. So, I give it to him still. But betting against Uzyk feels like a bad idea.
I am surprised you are so starry eyed about Usyk. He is extremely impressive. However he has limited experience at HW, & Vitali being much bigger & stronger with a great chin + being a high volume fighter would make it very tough for him. I would not call Vitali a runner up type because he had 2 injuries that lost him 2 fights in his fighting career. Which includes a great amateur & kiickboxing career where he had many more fights than as a pro. Usyk could take this. But I think Vitali is better than Joshua. No injury is at all likely to occur. Usyk is a litte better than Vitali pound for pound. This easily could go either way.
Why does jsut his heavyweight resume count? The 215-220lbs guys like Glowacki, Briedis, Hunter, Gassiev and Huck are still mostly better fighters than the guys Vitali beat. Even if they're discounted for whatever reason, a win over AJ is better than any of Vitali's wins.
I didn't say they don't count. HW is a different ball game with zero restrictions on weight. The average guy is also usually taller than the average Cruiser. Someone could have a stellar resume at middle weight and then get destroyed at light heavyweight. Right now Usyk's HW resume is comparable to Michael Spinks
