What boxing history views would somebody have to hold to rank Wlad outside the top 50 heavyweights?

There are people who rank Wlad outside the top 50. That's fine.

This thread will focus on the OTHER views of boxing history that you'd have to hold to rank Wlad that low and remain consistent.

For example: Would someone have to assume a gulf between the quality of 2000s heavyweights and the men who came before and after? Perhaps downgrade the quality of some fighters Wlad beat (e.g., Byrd, Peter) compared to fighters he never faced (Maskaev? Briggs? Arreola?), or adopt a strict interpretation of enforcing the rules against holding? Which fighters in the past would you need to view really favorably compared to the usual critical consensus to rank them above Wlad?

Think of this as a reverse version of the "Ingo for GOAT" thread.

I'm not even a huge fan of this era but I would be hard pressed to name fifty heavyweights with better resumes or would beat him in head to head matchups.

What standards would you have to change in the way you rank fighters to put Wlad that low?

It wouldn't be a case of extreme views, it'd be a case of extreme mental difficulties.

You would have to believe that boxing in general has not Evolved but DEvolved, constantly, to the point that modern fighters wouldn't even be able to compete with the old-timers, all the way back to Sullivan. Then you could rank Wladimir Klitschko outside the top 50, along with Tyson Fury, Vitali Klitschko, Lennox Lewis and the other more modern fighters. Under such a view, Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield might barely get into the top 50.

You would have to belive all his fights were fixed, all his opponent s were the worse heavyweight s since the dawn of time?
That even Leon Spinks stood a chance against the guy with the glass chin!

It could only be done with a massive assumption that other eras were vastly superior to his.

Such an assumption would carry a burden of proof, just as it does when it is made against the old timers.

It's hard to argue he is out of the Top Ten let alone the Top Fifty.

Irrational and illogical views maybe? Wlad was an ATG. Maybe with certain views you could rank him outside of top 10, but stop smoking crack with Mitch Green if you think he's outside of even top 20.

Hold his KO losses against him, and that he ruled one of the weakest heavyweight eras where the best competition was his brother. How would his chin hold up if the likes of Jerry Cooney, Ron Lyle, Tony Tucker, and Oliver McCall if they were around in his time? I'm taking at least two of them to KO him. I don't rate some fighters today just by how carefully managed they are, or fighting 5 times in half a decade. Wlad is easily top 50 though. I'd rate him higher than Vitali who I preferred as a fighter, and would also include in the top 50

Ludicrous to even suggest Wlad would not be in the tp 50. Hard to imagine that mindset.

I've never heard someone rank him anywhere close to that low. If they did I would have to assume they are trying to stir up controversy, and don't actually believe that.

It’s not logical to put him anywhere outside top 20 let alone 50 (heavy weights). He’s in my top ten. But I can see a case for as low as 15. Maybe if you really hate the steroid era you can make a case. But then again I can’t recall Wad ever testing positive (we all know he did and everyone else so can’t hold against him).

A dumber than toast view. Wlad is at least top 12 imo.
