In and round the Choynski fight Johnson had weighed as low as 168 lbs and maybe as high as mid 170s - see photos going as far or near back - Johnson appears underweight - of course he didn’t have to come in low - It would be down to lack of $$$, hand to mouth existence. Even the square off with McVey, Jack is about 185 lb or so vs McVey’s 205 lb. However, mention Johnson’s name and casuals likely envisage the flourishing 208 lb’r from Ketchel and Jeffries and wonder how he was KO’d by a virtual Super MW back in 1901.

No, I said Earnie would STILL have a relatively very powerful punch today - relative to the current crop, not only relative to his own era.

Dimensions are fair factor, even when the weight maybe above 200 lb. For instance, aside from weight, guys like Frazier (205 lb peak) and Tyson (218 lb peak) were dimensionally small and at a major disadvantage in terms of both height and reach on their very own eras.

In that regard, their achievements, all round, are that much more noteworthy IMO. Mike Tyson, 5’10”, 71” reach, we’re talking roughly Ray Leonard stats, which in terms of dimensions, were about average at WW.

Also, compare the physical tools Ali was blessed with as compared to Frazier - then marvel at Joe taking Ali to hell and back (bar fight two - a clinch fest as per Ali’s doing). True, it’s not always or completely just about weight.

Roy Jr and Frankie Liles also said Merqui was the hardest puncher they faced.

lol he doesn`t even hit like some of the hardest punching welter`s Hearns had far more power and stopped a cruiser and knocked out a light heavy champ no way Manny`s power could have taken out Andries who himself punched much harder than Manny.

Julian Jackson had far more power than Naz as did Hearns, no way could Naz stop a middle like Fullmer with one shot either.

Canelo has to put everything into his shots to stop 168 fighters like Plant, look how many hooks had zero effect on Plant early on in that fight, Beterbiev has far more power than Canelo.

No way was Mugabi big enough to KO a heavyweight, unless it`s David Price.

Calzaghe went back to hit corner after the first round of his fight v Lacy and said Jeff had nothing on his shots.

Taylor punches like a poor man`s Mike Tyson, his punch mechanics are only 80% right which is why he`s struggling to KO lightweights.

Small fighters hit harder than big fighters.
They are just too small to land on big fighters.
