What makes Joe Calzaghe my hero? That’s just weird. I simply happen to remember how it was at the time. You’re the one with this weird thing about heros.
Yeah, well, maybe I am weird about heroes. When I was nine, I worshipped the ground Bill Cosby walked on. Then I saw the album cover. He won me over again later but it still hurt then.
The Ukrainian doesn't have to cheat to win fights. He also fights on the road & unified a division. Ward was gifted Kovalevs belts & had to head butt the likes of Kessler to death. Breidis, Gassiev, Joshua etc would absolutely murk all of Wards opposition let alone Usyk. Don't forget also that ward fought middleweights as well (Miranda, Abraham etc..) & drained LHWS like Dawson.. The answer is Usyk.
I take Usyk. His accomplishments in much fewer fights is remarkable, especially when you consider his wins were in his opponents backyard. Clearing out a packed CW division then taking out Joshua in only his third fight at HW is truly impressive. Ward never fought in his opponents backyard in fact he fought mostly in his. He also won controversial bouts whereas Usyk pretty much dominated, aside from a close fight with Briedis.
Usyk and it is not close. Cruiserweight when he unified was a shark tank and he spanked all of them. He fights clean and wins fair and square. He wins on the road in hostile venues and I don't think people appreciate how hard that is. Ward had some good wins but winning in the basement of Oakland High School with home judges isn't as impressive as beating somebody like Briedis in his home country. Moreover Ward is a dirty fighter that butts, grabs legs, nut shots etc. Ward fights are horrible to watch and Usyk fights are savage poetry in motion. Going to heavy and winning the crown is just the cherry on top.
Usyk easily. Beat better fighters, also has the gold medal and stuff and beat Joshua in a true P4P fight
Usyk, the road warrior. No drama, clean fighter, fights anyone anywhere and doesn’t need hometown decisions to win fights. You couldn’t pick two guys more different. And Usyk isn’t a self absorbed duck. He’s a humble guy who has elite skills. Ward was a solid fighter but how many times did he insist on fighting in Oakland? How many times did he wrestle and foul his way to victory. Usyk is a better fighter in every way and a more likable person. Ward is a douche.
Even if you value Cheating and fouling like crazy. Holding, headbutting, elbows, low blows, ducking below waist level etc. all of which done excessively Cowardice (in the sense that you refuse to travel or fight on a level playing field) Deck-stacking to the extent that you're essentially rolling with loaded dice Categorically refusing to even do once what Usyk does religiously ie. travelling to you opponent's backyard or in Dre's own words ''doing it the hard way'' Having home advantage, whether it be home city, state or country for every single one of your fights at the world level Home refs for every single one of your fights period, including world title fights against foreigners Having a scandalous amount of home judges even for world title fights, like often three Refusing to allow a single neutral judge for your rematch after your three home judges robbed your opponent of all their belts in the first fight Over Honesty Bravery Requiring zero advantage be it fair or unfair at the negotiating table Travelling to your opponent's backyard for every single one of your world title fights. Never having home advantage even once for your fights at the world level Winning your fights via clean boxing with zero fouling Never having a single home ref for any of your fights at the world level Only ever having one home judge in all your world title fights which they had to petition for Then Usyk still >> Dre both amateur and pro But if you don't Usyk is obviously way way better I think this sums the whole debate up in a nutshell This is how Dre stole his place in the Olympic final Timestamped 'Enjoy' This content is protected This is how Usyk earned his This content is protected No righteous person with a slither of integrity would value the former over the later or want to reward someone for taking the former approach over the later
Breidis would murder Kovalev.. Prime krusher was a specimen but he imploded quickly wheras Breidis has been shown now to be more resilient... Regardless of that tho Kovalev was JOBBED against Ward. So I'm not giving Ward any credit for that saga anyway.. & he's got a shady history with Conte too. Couldn't stick Ward.. both his phoney persona & his cancerous boxing style. Usyk is well ahead of Ward on any sensible list.
