    Round 3: McGowan 10-9 (Close)

Much better round for McGowan who may actually make a fight of this yet rather than just being happy to go the distance with Sexy Serge. McGowan is throwing in combinations now - his right hand behind the jab actually having some success. He makes some scrappy work work on the ropes, but at least he’s letting his hands go now. Martinez still looks comfortable but its something at least.

    29-28 Martinez.

Look, I knew Martinez would be too much for the pisspoor Macaulay, but the disparity in speed, timing, power and reflexes, between a crippled shell and a guy almost half his age is shocking. He really needs to hang it up, and yes... I'm talking about the 27 year old.

    Round 4

Martínez is piecing up the midsection of McGowan with solo blast lefts, taking his time and sizing up his aim before cutting loose with full power from a cradle at his own waistband. McGowan is actually listening to his corner, not waiting for Martínez, putting a left jab in his face, mostly not scoring but at the least sawing into his throat with his forearm, making him cede ground, and trying for right uppercuts on the flanks - themselves mostly errant, but he is physically imposing himself on the veteran. McGowan having a real go at it, no longer seeming as overwhelmed by the moment as he was in the beginning - just still hopelessly outclassed. Getting countered as you'd expect, but keeps bringing it.

    10-9 Martínez

    Round 4: Martinez 10-9 (Close)

McGowan is having a proper go now and making it a scrap - and he’s having some success. He doesn’t really seem to have the power to trouble Martinez but he is at least feeling the pressure now. The only issue is that Martinez is able to land hard single shots as McGowan opens up. Martinez lands some eye catching singles but McGowan is having a go and its good to watch.

    Round 5

Martínez is faking the usual high jab and left downstairs but instead sends the cross on an incline to McGowan's face. This hits paydirt a few times, and then McGowan decides he will take away the play by charging in behind a flood of left jabs and either smother Martínez or plant an uppercut somewhere on him. Martínez gets roughed up a bit on the inside before shimmying out to mid-range and going to work, landing jabs and lefts on the face. McGowan replies with a chopping sequence on Martínez, clouting him atop the head and trapping him on the ropes a moment.

    10-9 Martínez, closest yet, but...

    Round 5 - Martinez 10-9

Martinez is looking fairly tired now but still has the craft to land single shots, his jab again looking good and the odd straight left. McGowan really making him uncomfortable when he goes after Martinez. He hurts Martinez with a headbutt (unintentional) at the end of the round. He needs to be dirty and rough up and make the older man work rather than showing him too much respect.

After this he definitely needs to stick with small-pond fare. Something like an English area title would be more his speed. Could eke out a good living at that level.

I'm pretty sure Kelly Pavlik could put down the Pringles can, dust off the crumbs from his shirt, hop in a car, drive to the area (if he lived in Spain), and batter this kid into Bolivian with zero training.

    Round 6

Martínez is tossing lefts and then as soon as he pulls his arm in, wiping his nose with his glove. :dunno You got COVID in there, Maravilla? Lots of circling and posing from McGowan, very watchful of that left hand. Vigilance only provides so much a measure of defense, however, as when Martínez feels like doing so he is able to backhand a throwaway right jab into the air, get McGowan flinching, and mortar him with that left nearly at will. Light flurries by McGowan skipping around, but nothing with serious intent, feet never planted.
