Interesting in Franks IFL interview that he mentions that Ben Shalom was dealing with negotiations from the Whyte side yesterday in the hour before the purse bid was called. But then never even entered a bid in to the purse.
Correct me if I'm wrong here, for the first time in his career Whyte has no upside on PPV's. Looking at his thoughts on the whole situation, I can see a silent presser coming. The only way this fight recoups them numbers is if we see fireworks beforehand.
Yeah, Umar questioned it and Warren confirmed it was Ben Shalom Apparently Arum said it could land on both BT and Sky PPV? I’ve seen that mentioned on Twitter but haven’t actually seen the evidence of him saying it myself but could be a reason why Shalom didn’t make an official purse bid?
Maybe BT know they lack the promotional capabilities for a fight of this magnitude and reached out to Sky OR DAZN PPV is a long way off and Eddie has reached out to sky to put it on Sky Box Office but still failed to win the bid.
Fights that go to purse bids don’t have rematch clauses. Rematch clauses are part of fights that are negotiated beforehand and mutually agreed upon.
Sky tried to get involved last minute particularly Shalom as Whyte tried to generate as much interest as possible to to create a bidding war. the issue Shalom has is he would have looked small time putting a bid in. He had to put up a 10% holding deposit. He doesn’t have £3-4m in liquid cash in his accounts. Sky don’t front this fee the promoter does. I can see it being a joint BT and Sky PPV as it takes away the risk for Shalom to create PPVs for Sky for no cost. Warren has no loyalty with BT as they are being bought out. The PPV needs to do over 1.2m UK buys and 125k US buys to break even. Best chance at recouping the money is for a joint PPV
I'm fairly certain Fury's purse was agreed before the purse bid. Frank and Arum probably told him that we will pay you whatever DAZN would bid, e.g. 80% of 32 million. Frank was just bidding in for Whyte's 20%. Fury hates Hearn and probably went along with it. So the break even figure is more likely to be 34 million dollars (DAZN's bid and 20% excess for Whyte).
