Baers mandible may have been folded by the Bomber but mentally he was staunch he sat pretty in his other licks. I don’t think anything of Maxie honestly but he was what he was.

I first watched this fight in1965 when I bought a Joe Louis collection of fights on Super 8mm .Baer died in the dressing room its a matter of public knowledge. He tried to throw the fight at one point too. I don't think you should bother with anything, I believe you just want an argument ,well go have it with someone who is remotely interested in your opinion that Lou Nova was a puncher on a par with Cleveland Williams.If I want nonsense I can read Ra's posts! Hm never seen that quote before neat find. I don’t think he lacked courage I think he just saw the writing on the walls and stayed down he was beaten into that position and simply knew better then to rise.

Every other time he was pressed he took his hidings well and I don’t think Liston could dream up something that would match the battering Louis mugged Baer with obviously Max isn’t in Sonny’s league but I think he makes the bell or is legitimately stopped at some point.

Also for consideration I believe Max had a broken hand no? I’m not certain honestly.

 

I don't condemn him for quitting I just say that he did and that's undeniable.

I think it very likely that one look at Sonny in the opposite corner would be enough for Baer to mentally die as he did against Louis.

 

Based on what? Being butchered by Louis when he had a broken hand and deciding he didn’t want an early retirement.

 

Then I hope you remember how many punches Baer ate before the stoppage:

7:55 - I won't even count how many clean punches Louis landed on Baer
9:18 - clean left hook
11:15 - right hand
12:18 - left hook counter, then right hand, then he took a beating
12:29 - first KD after right hand
12:44 - triple hook combination, another KD
15:40 - left/right combination
17:04 - massive right hand, KD and quit

I didn't include massive number of powerful jabs and straight lefts that Louis landed on Baer. So yeah, Baer quit - after taking a sustained beating and getting up from 2 KDs. If you want to call him a quitter because of that, then I'd like to see you taking more punishment from the greatest puncher in boxing history.

Shall we compare that to Liston's rematch against Ali, when he quit after first punch thrown?

Post a list of the best Williams KO victims, that's all. If he's such an amazing puncher, he definitely has a long list of KO victims at top level...

 

I'd like to see a primary source of proof regarding this "broken hand "and have asked for it several times ,to date no-one has come up with any credible evidence to support it!

Personally I prefer to quote things I have primary sources for,not some hearsay without any provenance to it.Just as I address replies to those who are polite to me by their chosen UN. Ernest Hemingway was ringside and his opinion of Baer's performance was very scathing,he said," he just stood there like a steer and took it," calling it shameful .I don't think it was. he had a panic attack when they got the call to go down to the ring and Dempsey had to push him along to get him there. Many fighters were mentally beat before they got inside the ropes with Joe.Paychek and Levinsky both .at least Max took his lumps,before deciding , "**** this I'm not getting paid to be killed."
