Once again, this just goes around in circles and is entirely based on you going against the grain. That’s fine by the way - but I think you need to add in a bit more ‘I think’ in your opinions rather than stating them as if they’re absolute fact. Most people think Wallin is a bit better than you think (Fury also fighting below par that night) and Wilder being a lot better than you think. That’s why it always goes around in circles and tediously goes back to ‘resumes’.
It’s hilarious to keep reading this from Whyte advocates, especially after we witnessed Michael Hunter who arguably beat Povetkin before Sasha put Whyte to sleep in his next fight just got a gift draw against gatekeeper Jerry Forest. That in itself is enough to show Povetkin was shot to **** going into his fight against Whyte, was far from what he used to be and was done as a top HW. And he was way worse going into the rematch, having been hospitalized twice due to covid and shouldn’t even have been fighting anymore. And you saying that Whyte clearly beat Chisora in their first fight has no more validity to it than Wilder supportes saying that he deserved the draw in the first Fury fight. In the end, they both got the benefit of the doubt big time. On top of all that, Whyte himself has just blatantly ducked Otto Wallin, one of Fury’s come back opponents. He clearly has a much higher opinion on Wallin than you do.
Whyte is ****. He’s better than Wallin, Pianetta, Seferi and for me offers more than Wilder in every department other than punch power.
I thought Povetkin looked well over the hill against Hunter, and it was a fairly gruelling fight likely to take a fair bit out of him. So I gathered he was pretty much shot going into the Whyte fight. I think many of us discussed this beforehand. The thing is, despite KOing Whyte he was very much confirmed as shot in the fight. After 3 rounds he looked like he was in the 15th round, gassed, sloppy, slow, no punch resistance. Clearly washed up. It's remarkable that Whyte is rated highly after going 1-1 with that shot old man. Incredible. Not even getting into the possibility that Povetkin had also endured a strong bout of coronavirus in the meantime, which, if true, makes it all the more laughable.
Wilder looks a faster puncher to me. Just more athletic. Taller, longer reach too. Whyte's just an average plodding heavyweight. Strong with decent basic skills. But nothing outstanding.
The fight I’d absolutely love to see would be Wilder vs Joshua. I think that would help answer lots of the questions about this division. Sadly can’t see it ever getting made.
I'm not so sure. If Joshua lost an Usyk rematch that could be a makeable fight. Both coming off a loss. Neither with a title, a fight that would make money and which would put the winner back in the conversation. It could happen?
I still don't understand why Whyte didn't make some sort of statement of satisfaction with finally getting the fight settled and with a large bid too. He comes across as a particularly ungrateful 'entitled' whinger to be honest. How can he expect the common working man, the common fan, to get behind him when he's in a constant sulk, even after a lottery win of a payday, and all the money he's already made.
I think Joshua might retire if beaten again. Not sure he sounds in a great place mentally ‘could beat Usyk without a trainer’ indeed!
Can't believe I'm saying this but I think I feel bad for Eddie Hearn in this with the way Whyte carries on.
When asked about his plan for fighting him the way he did I think he said something like “you would have to ask my team” If he didn’t have the brains to change his plan himself during the first fight when it was clearly not working then he’s certainly not going to be able to cope on his own.
