Who was the bigger puncher? David Haye or Riddick Bowe

Before anyone gets a heart attack i know that Bowe was a level above Haye but i think Haye had more power. Thoughts?

 

I would agree David Haye has more 1 punch KO power than Riddick Bowe P4P, Haye is still the only man to stop Chisora early.

But Bowe was a big combo guy and hardly a 1 punch type. What he could do a lot better than the Hayemaker was to throw and land those 2/3/4/5 punch combos. Haye had the balance for his 1 big shot but not the balance for combos. Nor the activity level required for multi punch combos throughout a fight. Just a different way to get the stoppage wins between the 2.

 

IMHO, Riddick Bowe. I think the punching power the man had is somewhat underrated by some. He knocked out a lot of high level fighters.

 

Holyfield said that Bowe hit more consistently hard than anyone he fought. He said Foreman hit the hardest for a single punch here and there, but that Bowe was able to consistently land shots that hurt.

 

Haye sure isn't Foreman tho. For me Bowe hit harder.

 

I think Bowes overhand right is a thunderous blow that packed more power than Haye. While Haye was more athletic and explosive with his shots, Bowe was a huge guy that knew how to put his weight into a punch.

Normally, Bowe is punching with maybe 70-80% when he fights on the inside and is throwing combinations. A tall man with long arms using short quick combos isn't getting full leverage on his punches. I think that's the difference. When Bowe is at long range and can wind up a big right hand he probably hits harder than Haye in terms of sheer force. But on average Haye might hit harder due to styles and delivery.

Honestly dude it’s like this when you’re a giant you just throw hands and it does damage after you reach 160lbs you have no issues me I’m a small boned guy but a touch on the muscle bound side according to my side girls mind you at only 105lbs 5ft1 so honestly if they had my form and there size they’d benefit a lot more

 

He doesn’t get it big guys usually don’t he’s probably over 160lbs.

Are you saying guys over 160 usually do not punch as well as they could in comparison to smaller boxers?

I always thought that Bowe was a bit like Foreman in that he (in the pro ranks at least) just seem to have naturally heavy hands, with power in both hands though the right was usually the one he favoured most. Haye’s power to to come as much from the speed of delivery giving him that unexpected explosiveness, than from the power itself.

 

Bowe was the harder puncher, I reckon.
