Who was the bigger puncher? David Haye or Riddick Bowe

I think it was Tubbs or Thomas who also stated Bowe was consistently punishing as a puncher.

When he didn't wing his right so much, it was startlingly powerful, on a par with Lewis' (which is saying something imo). It's just that he looped it so often (to me it seemed to lose power because it took so long to get to the target).

To me his punches (including the right)t were practically perfect (as in, typically tight) against Holy I, after that those tighter shots seemed to kind of show up intermittently.

 

Pierre Coetzer had this to say about Bowe -

I think at heavyweight, Riddick Bowe should be seen as the more devastating hitter

 

I am 96lbs and twice the puncher in terms of technique then all those guys when you are that big like what twice the size of a normal guy? stuff gets lost in translation the more you go up in weight, P4P I think id have those guys like Liston beat if our sizes where made equal

Seriously though, claiming to have twice the punching technique of Joe Louis? The man was a mechanical wonder; a flawlessly tuned striking machine.

Blackburn designed his stance specifically to streamline motion and allow for an efficient and quick weight transfer. His steps were short and often shuffled to minimize the time he spent outside of the optimal punching stance, his weight oft on the rear foot and waist slightly bend to load the right hand. You could go on and on.

You can hate on the likes of Valuev for underutilized punching power, but Tyson, Listing and Louis in particular?

Inconceivable.

 

Fighters constantly lie about things like this. As I stated before. Shannon Briggs claimed Lennox Lewis didn't punch hard and Vitali Klistchko punched harder. Even though Vitali never dropped Briggs and Lewis knocked down Briggs like 3 times.

Bowe landed numerous flush punches on Pierre Coetzer and never knocked him down. Foreman dropped Pierre Twice.

Bowe has the heavier punch. Haye has the faster, more concussive punch that's likelier to land and likelier to catch you off guard. Swings and roundabouts.
