Provably, demonstrably exaggerated heights

But that does not make sense in several points:

1) It is routine, the norm, for fighters to be listed as *taller* than they actually are.
There is no real ldebate about this.
Among innumerable examples, I have seen Tyson & Frazier as both listed as 5'11 & 1/2" all the time on "offical" sources.
But in reality Tyson is at most 5'10.5". Frazier is likely a little shorter!

2) Again it is easy to find Hagler as often listed at shorter heights, including often 5'8". A cursory Google search will prove this.
Just on this frst page of results you can see this: including the most common sources anyone might CHECK about a boxer's height, Wikipedia & Box Rec. Here is the EVIDENCE.

3) Minter is even looking down at him? But that PROVES the point of myself & others.
Minter is often listed at 5'10" but if you review the evidence you will see 5'9" is more commonly believed & plausible.
So if he looks down upon Hagler, that would suggest Hagler is UNDER 5'9".

I’ve read Leonard admitting that while he was listed as tall as 5’11” back in the day, he was really only 5’9”. Now I’d give Ray a slight edge on Hagler - maybe 1/2” - so that would put Marv at about 5’8 1/2”.

Here’s Marv and Duran in a promo photo - so 5’8”’or so for Hags seems pretty accurate.

Realistically, it’s true that Fury is about 6’7 1/2” but two other things - he’s a terrible sloucher and his footwear often amounts to little more than slippers often vs street shoe heel on other people. So he might be incorrectly guessed to be under his actual height also.

I love to debate, but happen to think you are exactly right about Hagler being roughly a bit over 5.8", maybe 1/2"/
Also this is a good point I never thought about re: Fury!

Your evidence says he is 5' 10" which I stated all along. Look, you have your opinion, I have mine. I don't care to debate this.

I honestly think too many people, vain and insecure like they are, want to believe all their "heroes" are a lot shorter than they actually are. Perhaps in order to feel better about themselves, I don't know. It doesn't matter. It's also true that lots of people lie about their height, I don't deny that either.
They had little James "Hard Rock" Green at 5' 11" on your beloved boxing authority boxrec.com.....?????? The guy was 5' 4". Now I see someone must have come to their senses and fixed that. Don't believe everything you read online.

I can verify that Andy Ruiz’s listed height is real and that Paul Williams’ height was probably downplayed by an inch or two.

As far as boxers I have met, Tyson is not 5-11. No way.

Going the other way, I believe Muhammad Ali was listed as 6 feet 3 inches? Someone can correct me if I'm wrong. I met him standing in the lobby of the old Stanley Theater, in Philadelphia. I did look down at his footwear, which seemed to be dress shoes, but he appeared taller than 6 feet 3 inches to me. His feet were together and he was standing straight, as I was. I would have guessed 6 feet 4 inches. At 6 feet 7 inches tall, he was shorter than me, but not 4 inches shorter, IMHO. I was wearing regular street dress shoes at the time.

As an aside, he looked at me and said: "You're a big 'un!" Then he started going up and down on his toes, doing a hand measure from the top of his head to mine.. Later I sat right behind him for the Rocky Marciano - Muhammad Ali Computer fight, and spoke with him off and on throughout. That was a memorable night.

How I got behind him is another story.

How tall was Alan Minter? He was 5ft9 right? I remember in the stare off Hagler was eye level with his nose. I always felt 5ft7 is where the money is personally.

Tyson's height and build is pretty similar to kickboxer Andy Hug, I imagine there wouldn't be much of a difference if they were next to each other.
