I can't figure out how he got into boxing in the first place. His LinkedIn says: "Experienced Director with a demonstrated history of working in the entertainment industry. Skilled in Entrepreneurship, Event Management, Disruptive strategy, Public Speaking, and Corporate Law" But also according to that, he graduated in 2015 and ran Boxxer ever since, so quite what that experience amounts to is beyond me. He actually came across as fairly credible on the Bunce podcast but I took that as Buncey trying to brown-nose a promoter and make them look good, so he stays borderline relevant a bit longer. He's no public speaker though.
He's very little experience which you can clearly tell. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and reserve my judgement.
Hes terrible infront of the camera. Sky are trying to mould a Eddie Hearn clone amd its embarrassing as ****
He isn't terrible in front of the camera (much better than Frank Smith). The main thing is, is that he gets business done. He has made some good fights so far. If he can get Marshall Shields and Eubank BJS over the line, even better.
Early days but so far he has started to put some decent headline fights together (Khan/Brook, EJR/Williams and Taylor/Catteral albeit with Top Rank). What’s disappointed me so far is that the production looks cheap compared to matchroom shows. Some bizarre lineups in the commentary teams from sky and then thought it was cringe seeing Marshall try to dig out Shields who didn’t hear or couldn’t understand what was said at first. Like I say early days but with matchroom stuck on failing in the uk dazn, warren on bt about to go to Discovery plus and now Sky with Boxxer, boxing for the armchair fan just seems to be tanking and big fights seem like they will be harder to make than ever.
I'd rather a guy like Ben who gets things done quietly over a try-hard like Eddie who wants to be seen as a "character" and does a lot of talking / hinting / name dropping but ultimately the fights that he should be arranging don't materialize when they should, or ever. They're just promotors, I couldn't care less about their personalities, it's the boxers I'm interested in.
A hearn ifl video will get more eyeballs than some fights. Having a strong front man is why matchroom is/was so dominant.
It's not hard, you can look up Boxxer at Companies House. There are various shareholders ("backers" if you want to call them that) and the company appears to have been relatively quiet until now. The business lost around £220,000 in the year up to July 2021 but clearly made a lot of money in the year prior, whilst carrying a lot of debt that seems to have been wiped out in between; I could dig further but it's not that interesting. The next accounts will be from July 2021 to June 2022 inclusive so should have a full first year of the Sky deal - we'll see how much flows through the books then. Queensberry made a profit of about £4m in its most recent accounts which didn't include a Fury fight due to the pandemic and their accounting year dates - so you'd assume Boxxer will be in that ball park.
