It can't have escaped peoples notice that recently we are having more and more title unifications than we seem to have done previously. SBW is no different in this regard and I always feel that as much as titles themselves shouldn't be promoted, fighters who are trying to unify should be. Stephen Fulton and Murodjon Akhmadaliev have been working their way through the division and both have firmly set each other as the next fight they want. With the recent thawing regarding cross promotional fights I genuinely think this has a good chance of coming off, but no one seems to be talking about it anywhere which is a massive shame. This is the best fight that can be made in the division and its in a division that for so long has seen its title holders avoiding each other. Anyone else excited for this fight?
Indeed 122 pound has been heating up recently with Nery/Figueroa, Fulton/Figueroa, Akhmadaliev/Iwasa, plus the likes of Roman, Aleem, Tapales fighting against other top contenders. Fulton and MJ are busy with back to back mandatories so it's debatable whether they will fight in 2022. Can't forget about Inoue moving up. Perhaps we can finally see the grudge match between Inoue and Nery.
Nery always was a bit tainted imo. I think if both push for it, it can happen before the mandatories, and both do seem keen on proving themselves the best so I am optimistic. As for Inoue, is he definitely confirmed to move up, I expected him to stay and face Casimero after Donaire. But if these two unify, winner gets Inoue is a perfect fight to make.
I think they will fight each other this year and they should do it before Inoue move up There’s excitement in this division now because anybody could beat anybody
