Why did Golota like punching guys in the groin so much?

The easier way to say this is: There’s a lot of ways to quit a fight. (Look at Tyson and the ear biting.)

 

Re Golota’s “anxiety”, call me nuts but didn’t his opposition have far more reason to be thusly disposed than Andrew?

Prior to boxing, a more svelte Golota donned the tights and danced with the Polish National Ballet - he was a huge hit in the Nut Cracker.

Um, Golota did bite Samson Po’ua but still won.

 

He became a master of the dark arts later. At that point he was in his experimental stage.

He learned a bite might not always get the job done, so began to perfect the uppercut to the minerals.

 

He never did bite anyone’s nuts during a prize fight, to his credit.

 

Golota was a street fighter at heart. In the heat of battle I guess his instincts just kicked in and he did what had always found him success. Some guys are just savages.

 

Fear or injury, lack of killer instinct, anxiety.

When caught between Scylla and Charybdis (expectations, pressure from promoters, managers, and his own corner clashing with sense of self-preservation and growing desperation) he freaked out or lost his marbles. People do seem to lose track of the chronology of those events a little bit though:

a) First you have the Bowe fights. Golota already displayed fouls when pressured by a strong, hard to blow out puncher in Pouha. So he comes into the ring, outboxes Bowe and turns his brain into a scramble. But Riddick hits like a truck and simply refuses to go out, firing back and prolonging the fight until Andrew cracks. Same scenario in the second fight although in Golota-Bowe II Riddick allegedly broke his jaw and the Pole wasn't certain if he can bear the pain so he found a way out. Either way he was not yet willing to outright quit. He found his way out indirectly.

b) Then comes the Lewis fight and a few smaller victories to build confidence: Sanders, ancient Witherspoon.

c) Finally the notable Micheal Grant and Mike Tyson fight during which Golota simply quit, not trying to find his way out or take the pressure off of himself through fouls. He was making Grant look silly but failed to finish the job and despite leading on the scorecards comfortably quits, claiming he thought he was losing the fight. His corner claims anxiety attack. Against Mike he once again quits a fight he would likely win, although it might simply have been good shot by Mike that broke the bone and forced Golota to self-RTD himself. Either way he had no qualms getting out of the ring himself here.

Botton line is he went from finding a way out through fouls to simply quitting. It's worth noting that he found some fire in him during the twilight of his career — perhaps a last attempt at redeeming himself in the eyes of his compatriots who travelled across the ocean to support him; perhaps age did make him realize that there is a price to pay for greatness, one that he regrettably refused to pay.

 

That’s what it looked like to me in one of the Bowe fights. Bowe was starting to mount a comeback and get into the fight then BOOM another low blow puts him on ass and he’s dqed (which should’ve happened much earlier).

 

With the injury Golota sustained it is the one fight I do not fault him for quitting.
But given that damage & the way the fight was progressing, I cannot see it likely that Golota wins.

 

On a somewhat related note, Bernadette Peters sure looked good back in the day.
