Which of Cooper or Price was better has no bearing on the question, which was whether or not Price-Povetkin was competitive. In fact, the dude started out with Povetkin going "life and death" with Price, before walking that back Price being competitive. Less than 20 seconds of the bout was competitive. Price was blown out.
Yeah you do need to get your eyes checked. You literally wrote that the knockdown was legit, and then in the same paragraph said it wasn't an actual knockdown. It was similar to the Jones/Toney knockdown. If you send a guy stumbling back 8 steps and the only thing keeping you up is the ropes your ass got knocked down and the judges will cringe at how badly you got sent flying. Nowhere was I saying Price's knockdown was exactly the same as Povetkin's. He had to settle for body shots to break him down until he could time Price. He wasn't getting through that guard for many rounds.
Fair enough. Joe Louis himself was a HOF fighter who believed that his skills were sufficiently modern to beat Muhammad Ali.
Takam was 252lb. Maybe you want to rethink that. You have no way to prove that. Louis was faster and more accurate, that much is quantifiable. But punch for punch it's entirely possible that they hit as hard or harder. Huck for one winged his punches in from roughly Alaska and one can see that they had a lot of steam on them. Takam, as noted, weighed about 40lb more than Louis.
There's some truth to that but they do differ in fundamental ways. Louis had crisper, faster punching and better combinations. Povetkin has the better foot movement and the slipping skills that Louis does not. I also think that Povetkin is much tougher than Louis and has fought a much larger array of people.
No, your eyes are definitely failing you now. Nowhere did write "...that the knockdown was legit" what I actually did write was: " The count was legit in that the ropes kept Povetkin from falling. But it wasn't an actual KD" So what ? Are you trying to say body shots don't count ? And the two KDs...were they body shots or head shots? Was it a body shot that separated Price from his senses too finish the bout ? The fight was not the least bit close or competitive...it was a walkover. Your earlier comment about Povetkin going life and death with Price was frankly, laughable.
The second one is literally false though. Louis had more fights against wider spectrum of fighters and better competition on average.
I meant bigger guys. My bad. I don't think Louis' competition was better outright. Maybe on a p4p basis some guys like Walcott were rockstars, but Povetkin is the guy fighting 230lb guys on a regular basis.
I don't give deciding points for weighing 230 lbs, though it is a factor. P4P is no "maybe" though, the only P4P great Povetkin faced is Wladimir who isn't much of a P4P fighter.
Yeah, well, Louis faced an awful lot of sub 200lb fighters during his run, and some of them were as low as 175. The big guys he faced are no good by today's standards. Wladimir would have run through Louis' contenders like smallpox. Joshua likewise would have dealt out an unearthly beating to the majority of Louis' opponents. There's a reason why they called it the Bum of the Month club. To my knowledge there's not a single fighter on Povetkin's hit list under 200lb and he was outweighed for the majority of his big fights. Louis on the other hand was a bigger heavyweight mostly fighting smaller guys. That's the difference.
It's true, but it doesn't say anything about the quality of opponents faced. I'd say that someone like Conn or Pastor are better opponents than Price or Takam, despite massive size difference. If you compare them to Wladimir, then sure. If you compare them to Price, then I don't agree at all. The best opponents Louis faced would also do the same to th majority of Povetin's opponents. Do you really believe it was caused by the quality of opponents? It's a well known story, come on... Yet some of his biggest scalps (Byrd, Huck, Chambers, Chagaev) were the size of 1930s HWs. Most small men Sasha faced were better than huge bums he beat up and he struggled with smaller ones more (again, outside of Wladimir who is a huge outlier). Louis wasn't really big, his opponents weighed on average the same as him.
Louis 6'2 76' reach Takam 6'1 80' reach About the same size. Unless you think Galento is bigger than Wilder. I can simply look at the footage and see takam and huck have neither the eye test indicating they punch as well as Louis, nor do they have the results he does.
