Roy is the new Benjamin Button, Jones and Tyson both lost their primes early, they are now buddies. Lol.

maybe but he was not peak. at 160, his best opponent was Bhop and he did not look invincible in that one.

I wouldn't say he lost his prime early Rich as Jones went 14 1/2 years with just one DQ defeat. Monzon retired at exactly this stage while Jones kept fighting. Jones was a championship fighter for just over a decade. Monzon was a champ for 7 years.

Roy did not fade early he had a helluva long career at the top before dropping.

Tyson lost to Douglas at 23.

Jones lost to Tarver at 35.

Sorry that comparison doesn’t stack up at all.

Really enjoyed this posting, lots of varying points of view, all salient in their own way, each of us willing to listen and maybe adjust previous thought patterns, respecting the other posters points and observations, no slang, no disrespecting, just honest opinions shared with fellow posters, and at its conclusion , all courteous and friendly Bingo ! stay safe guys.

Not a popular opinion of course, but I'd pick Roy to win more comfortably than people expect. I'm just not seeing Monzon usual approach working well and it's hazardous to one's health to go balls to the wall with a counter puncher that has speed and power like Jones. Who knows, maybe Monzon takes him in deep water, I just wouldn't favor that scenario

So Carlos Monzon was still fighting at 35, his last fight was a unanimous 15 round decision over no.1 challenger Rodrigo Valdes in Monte Carlo, Monaco. Monzon retired after 14 title defenses, 1970-1977. I do apologize for calling your favorite fighter Benjamin Button, but to me he was just another talker, the kind I used to turn the volume on the television down or change the channel. I am not a follower like the other posters, I call them as I see them, I choose to march to my own beat.

I respect your opinion but Jones did not show any intelligence fighting past a certain point in his career, a great fighter knows his own limitations, greed should not be the factor in his decisions. Monzon was bored and knew when it was time to leave. Sorry not sold at all on Roy Jones Jr, he talks too much. Muhammad Ali was original, that was cool, I do not care for fighters that imitate others.

You are the biggest troll Boboso, you do not have the guts to say that to me in person, Lambion. Go ahead and report me, this crap is trivial, I do not have a problem leaving for good unlike you who acts tough in front of a keyboard, always acting confrontational when I post. Go away you little punk, your mommy is calling her little Mijito.

Monzon threads sometimes go this direction. Perhaps because of what happened later bit from his supporters being hyper sensitive. I haven't seen any Monzon bashing this time.
Just comparing two fighters styles, strengths and weaknesses.
I wouldn't argue with anyone who ranks Carlos Monzon as the #1 Middleweight of all time. He has a strong case. He should probably be in anybody top 3.

He could be that and still find Roy Jr a stylistic nightmare matchup. I favor RJJ to outslick him in what would ultimately be a rather boring affair.
