With the 3 current biggest names in the company all coming to an end of their contracts, who can take their spots? I'd imagine the UFC will look to push 3 fighters on and promote much more this year. But which 3 fighters have the potential to be the next breakout global stars? I cover this story in my blog. Let me know if you agree with my picks! https://stitchedupblog1.wordpress.com/2022/02/03/who-will-be-the-breakout-stars-of-the-ufc-in-2022/
Interesting. But I wouldn't choose him for 2022. He'd be more of a pick for 2023. They'd need to push him on quickly and promote the heck out of him, in order for him to become a breakout global star by the time 2022 is over.
I'm only recently getting into UFC so I'm not familiar with many of the top fighters. I'd like to know your opinion of Paddy Pimblet though?
Paddy talks a good game. As an Englishman I support him, though he is one of my least favourite among the English crop in the UFC. I find him too cocky tbh. But in his previous promotion he did very well. And he had a shaky debut too, he got the win but he almost got ktfo. His defence was almost nonexistent, that's something he needs to change if he is to become a top 10 ranked fighter.
I've seen a few comments on his page saying he hangs his chin out and he's going to get clipped if he doesn't sort that out. I find him quite amusing, I see what you mean about being cocky though.
Pimblet looks very average imo. He's all hype and will get derailed when he fights someone like a Bobby Green/Drew Dober level.
Imo Chimaev looks to be the real deal but I would like to see him go into deep water longer in a fight to see if he has a gas tank. I wouldn't be surprised if he is the one to dethrone Usman. I think O'Malley is more hype than substance. Makhachev looks very good but I'm unsure if he is any better than any of the other top 5 guys at 155.
Global star? Conor is a global star and maybe Khabib, MMA is not a global sport, some countries don`t even show it.
If you read my article on it then you will get the context. 3 of the biggest draws in the UFC, who attract a casual audience, are all close to running out their contracts. McGregor, Ngannou and Diaz. Without these 3 names fighting in the UFC which fighters will take over their role as being globally known, and can attract the casual fans. Without casual draws the UFC will lose popularity and viewing figures. It's massively important for the company to push on 3 fighters to promote that can connect to casuals and bring in those viewing figures.
