How much of a boxer's purse do they pay to the sanctioning bodies? is it a % or a flat fee, I tried to google the answer and there was an article on Cotto refusing to pay 300k which is an absurd amount for a single title. Nowadays we have the WBC, WBC franchise, WBA, WBA gold, WBA silver, WBA regular, WBA super, IBF, and WBO titles in each weight class (i have probably have missed some). I've also read that Joshua has paid well over 1million in sanctioning fees through his career if this is true then the reason for more and more belts arriving into an already over saturated market is plainly obvious. Also from sanctioning fee's where does the money actually go?
It varies. The standard rate is 3 percent per title, but is usually (not always) negotiable for mega stars like Mayweather, PAC, Cotto, Canelo, etc..., That said being an undisputed champion is very expensive. It doesn’t make much financial sense to be an undisputed champion or even fight for undisputed unless you have very powerful financial backing. I remember when Indongo was preparing for his fight with Crawford and Indongo’s own family advised Indongo to try and sell his belts to Crawford or dump them, since they feared Indongo wasn’t going make any money fighting Crawford, which turned out to be the case. Indongo had to pay 12 percent of his purse in sancting fees to fight for the 140 undisputed title. Here is an article discussing Indongo paying a hefty price. “Julius Indongo remains focused on the job at hand, despite an underwhelming week behind the scenes in his quest to own all of the four recognised world titles in the junior welterweight class at the same time. His promoter/trainer Nestor Tobias said the IBF and WBA champion, who was stripped of his IBO title on Monday and is set to part with 12% of his purse to sanctioning fees, is single-mindedly in battle mode ahead of his historic unification showdown against WBC and WBO titles holder Terrence Crawford next week.” https://allafrica.com/stories/201708110525.html
12% is shocking especially for someone who doesn't have a large profile, its a shame that he has just faded into obscurity now as he looked very good V Burns.
