This content is protected The best version of this fight I have seen in terms of quality. Sharkey looks great in this fight, Dempsey was relentless.
He definitely outclassed Dempsey here until the dubious stoppage. That said, Dempsey looked far better in his earlier bouts. He lost a lot of his footspeed and it was critical for his style. Still, I'm impressed how he was able to crowd Sharkey at all costs and he took punches well.
What about the constant holding and the low blows though ? I feel he refereeing as well as the decision were terrible
He looked a bit better in later rounds, but Sharkey still staggered him in the 6th round. I don't know, I'm not sure Dempsey would have enough time to win a decision and it seems that Sharkey took his punches well and made him miss often.
The quality is great indeed, but their bodies appear ro be lit in some weird color at times, it's like they are glowing, most likely it's from the re-mastering of the footage.
Sharkey looks like he was in very good shape by the way. His back muscles are very apparent thanks to the quality of footage. He weighed 196 lbs in that fight.
I'm surprised he fell down from what looks to me like an arm punch by Dempsey, he didn't have leverage or body weight behind it.
So it doesn't matter? I mean, Sharkey didn't protect himself and Dempsey was known for throwing short, yet powerful punches inside. Sharkey was hurt by low blow and he got hit in the face with no defense by extremely powerful puncher. I think it's enough to knock out most boxers. It's another matter that Dempsey should have been DQed.
He complained about the low blow before the left hook, but I don't think the low blow was that powerful, cause if it were, he'd have fell down from it
