Since Usyk left. Breidis more interested in fighting Jake Paul. Okolie making a living off smacking bums. Unification fight no where in sight. No one in there worth a ****. Canelo should stay clear, and only move up if Usyk is coming back down.
Aydamn, don't you have anything better to do than slang the best division in boxing? It's a well known fact that CW level>>>>>>>>>>HW level!
There's nothing at CW that gets me excited at all really. What massive fight could happen that would get you that aroused? Usyk, Gassiev have both left. Breidis is a joke now. Who's left? Okolie... who fights nobodies.
Briedis is about to travel to Down Under to face an undefeated, highly rated amateur in Opetaia. Okolie will face Cieslak next week. A tough and skilled fighter. Goulamirian will face Egorov next. Battle of undefeated fighters. Merhy will face Tischenko next month. Rugged fighter against former Olympic gold medalist. Makabu just fought Mchunu and could face Canelo next, if not, another top rated contender. Even without Usyk, Gassiev, the division is filled with good fighters.
When some ace like Oleksandr Usyk leaves the category, there is always a "gap" (and Gassiev also left the CW). The loss of such quality is difficult to make up for. However, this does not mean that the CW category has failed. It reminds me of a similar example. How much the LHW category lost with the departure of Michael Spinks to the HW?
The Cruiserweight division is a bit of a wasteland these days. 3-4 years ago, it was buzzing with prime fighters and upcoming talent. Since then, a lot has changed. - Usyk left. - Gassiev left. - Briedis got old and he was never a big star to begin with. - Glowacki got old. - Dorticos lost to Briedis and he's also getting old. - Tabiti got KO'ed and he hasn't fought much since. - Okolie is probably moving to Heavyweight. There are no exciting fights to be made other than Briedis/Okolie, but I doubt that's happening.
Divisions tend to become **** after big WBSS style tourneys stacked with talent. A superstar will emerge, move up, and take all the shine with him. Look at the big tournament winners of late and look at the state of the division they won in several years later (Ward, Usyk, Taylor). The Breidis stuff is the nail in the coffin. It's like he doesn't understand how the internet works and what people will react to. He's doing the cringey Jake Paul clown stuff without getting paid for it all while being a tremendous boxer. Sad
As noted above the CW division is still talented. Of course when the two best left it suffered a bit but that's expected. I still rank it highly.
Well put, but why even bother with this guy? Breidis has signed to fight his #1 contender, has won three of four cruiserweight belts, gave Usyk a tougher fight than AJ, and has wins over Huck, Glowacki, Dorticos, Perez, Charr, Durodola and Micaelyan and Mann, but he's a joke because he is having a bit of fun trolling. Wow, The level of discourse around here is a real mixed bag.
