Ali struggled with decent skilled boxers and didn’t fought many skilled boxers he fought sluggers swarmers most
It's likely you don't understand what you see. Answer this, how would James toney, a mostly stationary fighter, going to deal with someone as fleet footed as Ali??? And...Ali had a 5" reach advantage.
Toney is one of my favourite boxers and if he had more discipline he would be more appreciated What he did going up the weights was remarkable. However, Ali is maybe the greatest athlete ever I the sport. Rjj was too quick for Toney, imagine the naturally bigger Ali in the ring with an overweight, plodding Toney? It would be a massacre and Toney literally wouldn't lay a glove on him. He was a bloody middleweight for crying out loud and he's expected to beat Ali at Hw? Lol
Toney was a plodder at hw Ali sometimes fought down to opponents levels, but we are talking prime Ali here? The guy from 66-67? Ali comfortable decision l
I agree and im one of the biggest Toney fans. Obviously if Toney was naturally bigger and taller he would have a good chance, but he's a Middleweight against what many consider the best HW of all time
I say this with no bias as James Toney is one of my favorite boxers ever, Ali would absolutely dominate the CW version of Toney (not even gonna discuss the HW version). Toney was at his best at MW-SMW. He was always lazy but he had great footwork at the lower weights, by the time he got to LHW and CW, he sat in the pocket and countered in combination. No way would that version beat Ali. No way. Not sure Toney would win more than a couple rounds.
That's just a vague ass statement. Guess who's struggled w/ skilled boxers too, James Lights Out Toney. And nothing about how Ali would dance around Toney?? You understand Toney's defense was his upper body movement. He didn't move around the ring a lot.
Exactly mate It's testament to his greatness that he campaigned at heavy and was successful Ali was all wrong for James at hw
