Just me who thinks he comes across 10x better now Matchroom have left Sky? You can tell he absolutely loves boxing. We all get annoyed at his over-excitable commentary but any man commentating on a sport they love would struggle to keep emotions in check at times too.
I don't mind they guy, he loves boxing and hasn't been bitter or negative towards Hearn and Matchroom for turning Sky Boxing upside down. His commentating does really annoy me though, I wish he'd just dial it down a bit when he starts waxing lyrical about a fighter and also acknowledge the work of non Sky/Boxxer fighters.
I can also tell he loves red sauce, as well as female fighter weigh ins. You can also add dungeons and sniffing bike seats to the list. The guy is a creep and should not be a free man I believe he is a danger to society.
With the rise of AJ on Sky I think Adam has tried to adapt to more casual younger fans. Whether you like it or not a lot of these fans are sticking around and supporting Sky still.
His last interview oozed class. Put the bitter matchroom fc shills and Eddie in their place via pure positivity/rapey energy
Unlike Eddie Hearn, he radiates lots of profits and talks nicely about DAZN / Matchroom. Adam Smith is a class act.
Agree with the 2 comments above. You can tell he genuinely wants all of boxing to do well rather than just his own stable.
I just saw an interview with Ben Shalom where he mentions both Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren with great respect. Nice to see.
Yep. None of the patronising ‘they’re not on the same level as us but it’s nice to see Sky staying in boxing’ crap Hearn comes out with as he prepares for Okolie headlining a DAZN card.
He’s always come across as a good guy. Before he’d always admit he’d bought the Fury Wilder PPV for example.
I just heard from a serious source that it will soon be announced that AJ chooses to stay on Sky Box Office.
I've always thought Smith has come across well in interviews - pre and post Matchroom. He has always spoken well of other British fighters, and went on for ages about how he went to Fury-Wilder 2 as a fan and loved every second. Personally I haven't seen the huge change. If he is being more humble now, it's because he knows they are building from scratch - underpromising and overdelivering is also a very good habit to get into. Like you say, the only problem is the commentary. His enthusiasm is great when selling and summarising fights, but it's his achilles heel during a live commentary. Unfortunately Sky seem to have decided that monotone Matt Macklin is the perfect foil, and it's been clear for a while it doesn't work. Rawling and Woodhall for BT are streets ahead (even if I prefer Barry Jones to Richie).
Adam Smith seems like an okay, if creepy bloke. Knows his boxing and is respectful. Hearn on the other hand, is a petulant child, born with a silver spoon in his mouth, a bully, a nasty person in general, and detrimental to boxing on the whole. He's absolutely ruined boxing in the UK in recent years.
