Yeh fair one but if his main attraction is on sky, his other main attraction is a free agent and then Dillian Whyte being essentially a free agent. Who is driving subscriptions for dazn in the uk? I know dazn is a global service and they make money abroad but the uk side of things will surely be running at a loss l.
This isn't news mate. This Twitter poster - who, with no disrespect, isn't likely to have met and teased a scoop out of Smith - is exploiting readers. When he says "hearing" he almost certainly means "I watched his interview with Boxing Social / IFL / Seconds Out where he said this". Smith's been saying the exact same thing in interviews for months - AJ is loyal, we expect him to stay. Here he is saying exactly that in October. This content is protected @Astro said similar things last night. Obviously we don't know if he's the real deal either, but if he did hear it directly from a good source then fair play to him and appreciate his sharing the news.
It last alway run at a loss. Even if they took on the premier league tomorrow, DAZN UK will run at a loss for a minimum of 5-10 years. It’s a long game they are playing
It would present an interesting situation if AJ was to continue with Sky as his broadcaster as Matchroom are still his promoter? I suppose it would be similar to the last fight where Matchroom fighters make up the bill ?The major difference would be AJ choosing Sky over DAZN and that would cast more doubts on Hearn’s decision to walk out on Sky . On the positive side at least the public would know that Eddie was still involved in the boxing business as Sky would provide some marketing.
I wonder if it will be sky in uk and Dazn elsewhere like it has been. You guys are not getting the value from this though. For me in Canada as I have said before I have no complaints as they have every premier league game, every champions league game, every NFL game and the boxing.
DAZN UK is the worst sports subscription service in the world - subscribers got fresh air for £7.99 in Jan 2022
The idea is to continue to work with Eddie Hearn for a very long time. He is the best promoter in the world, by far. I love working with him because he is a promoter who cares about even the little details, which makes everything much better. He never has a problem with his fighters and he listens to the wishes of his fighters. It is great to finally work with this type of promoter. “It is true we signed a two-fight deal, for February and May (vs. Yildirim and Saunders). I like this way of working, and Eddie is happy to continue with this too (to work on one/two-fight deals). We have already asked him to lead the negotiations for our September fight, possibly against (Caleb) Plant, and he has started the talks with their team. We have discussed the idea of fighting in December too and in May 2022. Yes, the idea we (Canelo and Eddy Reynoso) have is to keep working with Eddie for my fights and also with the other fighters on our team (in Canelo Team – such as Julio Cesar Martinez, Hiroto Kyoguchi) for many years.” Also spoke to someone non matchroom related who confirmed If matchroom has all the fighters they would prefer to just let Eddie promote all the events. They like the way he runs the show and feel he’s straight to work with. But they know he can’t provide all of the fights due to politics. So they are open to all promoters in order to make the best fights.
Chucking the heat at Usyk to stop him from moving too much. Joshua to try and walk him down and blast him out of there.
Or usuyk and Joshua are going where the most money is. Usuyk isn't going to say no to the mega millions the Saudis provide.
Canelo vs BJS is ancient history at this point, so anyone who subscribed at 2 pounds for that fight would have cancelled long ago. That 200,000 subscribers figure gets thrown but we are still yet to see any evidence of it. DAZN don't publish those figures. BJS was nothing but a paper champion at 168, he's never been a popular fighter at all and the result was a foregone conclusion. I always struggled to see that fight being very appealing to the casual market even at the low price point. Let's say it was not exactly correct but for the sake of argument the 200,000 was not so far off- it's nowhere near that now, as I mentioned that's in the past and what DAZN have followed up with domestically since would not get within a million miles of keeping 200,000 people signed up at four times the price. AJ is also potentially one fight away from the beginning of the end, whatever platform he ends up on and whatever the result against Usyk 2 I don't see him boxing on for years to come. So his value and relevance to DAZN or Sky as a active boxer is in the short term. I would even say very short term.
I enjoy reading your sledgehammer reality posts @Donald Donaldson. I don't align entirely with a lot of your views on DAZN. Companies like the subscription model because it's "sticky"; this despite logic saying ease of cancellation means nobody would ever become recurring. But I can totally see how you've come to the views you have, and DAZN give nothing out to prove either of our arguments, so fair play. I think however you're dead wrong with your last point re Joshua. This is UK boxing. There are still big fights out there for Joshua that would sell, even if he lost to Usyk. Fury and Whyte most obviously. Not as big as they would have been in 2018-21, sure, but they would still sell in very very solid numbers imho. After all, we're in a country where Derek Chisora with his 12 defeats has been a regular on PPV, and a 6+ years too late Khan v Brook matchup seems to be doing roaring trade.
