Poor Eddie must have been gutted tonight. After trying desperately to downplay the fight with Khan v Brook he must realise that it was still a fight a lot of people were interested in watching even after so long. Hopefully sky have done big numbers. On one hand he's calling Khan and Brook shot fighters then trying to line Benn up with the winner as a massive fight
Benn is after the loser - the winner needs to wait a couple of years and have another 3 losses in that period
Hearn is the most bitter promoter in the game, no matter how hard he tries to portray himself as the opposite. Does any other promoter put down fighters and fights they're not involved in as much as Hearn does?
When Eddie Hearn was on the top of the world 3 - 4 years ago I remember a person told me that he had said to Eddie Hearn : "Remember the people you meet on the way up you also meet on the way down." A good piece of advice he has unfortunately forgotten.
The fact is part of the reason it was so big because it was on Sky. It’s easy to access. People want to click a button and watch. Not go through a big hullabaloo
To be fair Hearn said he wanted Brook to win but the fight wasn’t what it once was. I think that’s quite honest really. I do agree he knew full well it would be a box office hit. I was sceptical at first but there is needle and narrative and Sky pushing it. It had to have done well.
Eddie Hearn said that Khan vs Brook was not worth the money the boxers demanded and that is a perfectly fair view. Sky is very aggressive and ready to pay to get the big fights made.
He probably said that after he knew they weren’t going with him. Sky can give a PPV upside and limit the risk. Dazn don’t have a proven model to fall back on so they just need to pluck a number and see if it works.
