As it says. I regard Charles Number 1 at lightheavy, sure a few more do. But who could be the Norton to Charles s Ali?
Michael Spinks maybe… Roy Jones at his absolute peak (at 168) is a possible… …Plus anyone in the 40s who actually did (but not sure anyone did beat him when he was at his absolute best)
That's a short list,,, Spinks, Bob Foster maybe, some of the 70's light heavies would be great fights, Saad Muhammed, Qawi, Eddie Mustafa Muhammed but I wouldn't pick any to beat Charles.
Yep, he's got to be a good name to pit against Charles, RJJ. Would be good to see a couple of fights between em.
That's solid gold names there, Tonto. Langford. Jeez would like to see that one. Man of mystery Greb. Got to give him a bloody good chance.
I think the forum has done pretty good here. To beat Ezzard Charles you must bust up his rhythm, it's paramount IMO. So Jones is a very good shout and Spinks might be the only man I'd make a favourite. Hard to think of anything more thrilling than Charles trying survive Sam Langford in a 15 round contest in Vegas. I don't think it's possible for boxing to get any better than that, wow. I think Charles lines up ok with Sam though. Charles one of the few fighters around his weight I'd make a tiny favourite over him, but lord knows anything could happen.
Charles v Spinks is the boxing equivalent of throwing on some 1940s hard bop whilst smoking a “jazz cigarette”. A real chin stroker.
Only fighters I think would have a chance against a prime Charles at LHW would be Michael Spinks, Bob Foster, and Roy Jones Jr. But even then I still see Charles beating all 3 of them.
Even tho Langford by all accounts was a beast, I see Charles getting a decision. But I'm not putting money down on that.!
