Stop your WHINING. Christ. They both walked away from their fights with NINE-FIGURE deals. Canelo took his NINE-FIGURE deal and won FIVE MORE World titles (from middleweight to light heavyweight). Golovkin took his and all but vanished. Golovkin has become Gary "freaking" Russell, fighting once a year against someone nobody knows or cares about. Canelo's already finished his nine-figure deal and is negotiating a new one, Golovkin is only halfway through his and has no idea when he's even fighting again. And people have all but stopped asking when he will fight again. Frankly, nobody cares anymore. Golovkin was one of the biggest names in boxing after the Canelo fights, and now NO ONE talks about him unless is about Canelo, too. Like this thread. Golovkin's career has become one big Canelo fixation. People can't even be criticial of what a complete train wreck Golovkin's DAZN deal has been and how he's gone from a huge name to an afterthought. People have to make it all about Canelo - whose career has never been bigger. That's because Canelo chose to keep moving ... Golovkin chose to do nothing. That's ALL on Golovkin.

Don't act like he didn't cash in after the Canelo fights. Golovkin's name was huge after those two fights. They didn't give him that deal because he wasn't a huge star. Yet he's fought next to nobody and is only halfway through it. And nobody discusses him anymore. Choosing the Gary Russell plan of fighting once every year or so for a big check against nobodies is ALL on him.

It's very simple. After their fight, Golovkin WAS REWARDED with a $100 MILLION CONTRACT. He was huge, and he has done NOTHING with it. Golovkin's drawing power didn't drop because he lost a decision to Canelo. He was awarded the biggest contract of his life - one of the biggest in the history of the sport -- AFTER THAT. The fact that he doesn't FIGHT ANYONE caused his drawing power to drop. You can't have DRAWING POWER if you are inactive ... and nobody hears from you unless you're complaining about a fight that happened four or five years ago. It's very simple. You can't draw people if you don't FIGHT anyone. You know how Golovkin could get immediate drawing power? Use his next $15 million payday to fight freaking Beterbiev ... instead of sitting on his ass and whining about a fight five years ago.
He was chasing old fighters. He had been chasing Cotto and Canelo before they made their MW debuts. That's Golovkin for you. He was chasing old fighters who were doing the exact same thing you guys defend him for doing, collecting the biggest paydays available. He declined Charlo, Andrade, Ward, Saunders, Derevyanchenko when he was undefeated, and refused to give Jacobs the rematch . Bottom line. Golovkin was very talented, but his greed and lack of desire to fight anyone really affected his legacy.
Golovkin may redefine "bitter" in the boxing dictionary. He could be so much cooler (and more effective) about the whole thing. Majority of fans thought he won fight #1 but to try to pretend that fight #2 is viewed the same as the first is to be insincere.
