Tunney and Langford have best shots .. just can't see Spinks who had size and terrific skin but so few actual fights .. Jones was not at his best at 175 .. Foster always a very live shot against anyone .. it's interesting to see how his stock has dropped at 175 a bit .. year ago he was viewed as the best ...
Spinks is the best chance for me. So much power, so awkward, so skillful and so tough. He knew how to win Spinks and he'd be right in this.
Spinks, with that jerky style and height advantage ,possessing real lhy power would certainly be a tough nut to crack.I consider Bob Foster a top 4 all time light heavy, but don't think he matches up well here.Jack Delaney was another very talented guy who had a sneaky right cross.I think Bob Fitz would be too static for Charles.
I wouldn’t hold the number of fights Spinks had against him here. There aren’t that many fighters with so few fights who faced that much quality opposition: Marvin Johnson, EMM, Qawi, Holmes - that’s some top tier talent and all very different styles. If anyone had a style that neutralised the other fighter’s style it was Spinks. Re Jones, he could still weigh in at 168 and be a light heavy so him at his ‘94-‘96 peak with the speed he had, plus the power and the unorthodox attack - think Lloyd Marshall on steroids (figuratively and liiterally) - and you’ve got a fighter who would at the very least cause Charles a serious headache.
I disagree even if i do know where you are coming from Mike. He beat some of the greatest light heavies ever but i'm not sure it makes it obvious he beats any and all of them. Now don't get me wrong - there's a fair chance he would mate, absolutely. For me it's a bit away from guaranteed tho. Keep well mate.
On his best night I'd favor him over everyone at that weight on their particular best night. If pressed I'd give a chance to Michael Spinks, RJJ and Bob Foster.
