Mike Tyson had a better career than Larry Holmes.

Tyson won the title at age 20 and knocked out Spinks in a round instead of relying on the classic section of boxing24 (Holmes nutriders) to overturn the verdict of a fight.

Holmes turned pro late so he wouldn't even be worthy of having this thread created if he weren't relevant in his mid thirties.

    You run your mouth.

You have convinced very few people and you're basically a contrarian with little substance.

    About what?

You think you're good at reading people too, forgot to add that. The comedy makes your asinine comments worth it.

Holmes went undefeated until 36yrs old. Tyson got ktfo at 23yrs old.

This is erroneous. If we're matching ages, Larry Holmes was stopped at 22 by the mighty--checks notes--Nick Wells.

Holmes I fell is just a bit overrated. Most here put him in the top 3 but I tend to put him between 8-13.

Sometimes I wonder if No Neck (whom overall is a member whose opinions I respect) gleefully waits for me, Holmes' biggest fan here, to pop in on this type of subject.

They were both ridiculously great. H2h I don't see Mike doing anything but getting stopped in the later rounds, though I can certainly envision him knocking Larry down along the way.

Overall Holmes takes it...but to me there are only three or four guys between him and Mike at ATG.
I'll let everyone else hash this out. I'm probably seen as too biased.

On occasion, I've wrongly doubted my own opinions. I've also sometimes wrongly considered changing my mind on something. Upon mature reflection, though, I always come to realize that I was originally even more right than I'd originally imagined.

Everyone makes these kinds of mistakes from time to time. The key is not to let evidence, logic, or common sense dogmatically dictate that you change your mind. One must always humbly admit that it's possible your opponents were wrong.

I think it's close, I give the edge to Holmes in longevity, but Tyson unified the belts and when he came on the scene he brought the focus back on the heavyweight division, unlike Holmes reign where boxing turned toward Leonard, Duran, Hearns, Hagler, and even Ray Mancini.

Right, the 5-years-past-prime, 38 year old just-turned-grandfather Holmes who'd been out of the ring for a year and a half. And by the way my friend, I already knew you were fishing for me to answer like that lol. This is one of the rare times you were transparent, so I decided to be the same. No harsh feelings.
