Mike Tyson had a better career than Larry Holmes.

Watch Snipes and Shavers drop him and use your imagination, in that case.

Tyson has a better career in popularity, $ earned, he was an electrifying performer. I also don't dismiss the possibility that Mike Tyson may have beaten Larry Holmes on their respective best days.

Aside from that the OP's post was agenda driven and a bit twisted. I could pick it apart item by item but I trust in these 35 pages someone has already done so. Gonna go out on a limb and guess that if it this thread were an actual boxing match Richard Steele might have stoped it by page 7.

Lol, I think you actually get a kick out of this. Ok, in a respectful manner, Buster Douglas overall hit no harder than Snipes and he demolished Mike. Snipes caught Holmes with a lucky shot he didn't see coming, and as far as Earnie goes there's no shame in getting knocked down by the most powerful puncher who ever lived. Difference is, Holmes got up to knock the crap out of both of them, while Mike stayed in the Twilight Zone. Mike never got knocked down and then got back to consummately win. Holmes did that three times in his prime. Mike didn't hit any harder than Weaver or Shavers. C'mon No Neck you've heard all this stuff before...I get the feeling you're bored. I'm personally just getting a kick out of delivering a predictable litany, which for some reason I guess you're in the mood for lol.

Yeah Born Again was kewl, but Gillan is a Purple man, I had the Iron Maiden Run to the Hills avatar for quite awhile so I thought it was time for a change.

Gillan rules! Hard to imagine there being a Halford, Dickinson, or Dio without him.

Tyson would only be compared to Louis and Ali if he’d trained for Douglas.

As for Holmes, the fight would simply be over against Tyson if he got caught like he did multiple times in his prime. Tyson=ATG finisher

But he didn't, and he lost abominably to a third-rate Holmes. He had no one to blame but himself.

Holmes didn't train seriously for Mike Weaver (he even had an obvious, terrible cold, you can hear it in the interviews both before and after); Larry got knocked down, then got back up to knock him silly.

    Holmes had ATG resiliency.

Yeah, I had to think on that one lol.

Yeah, but Holmes knocked out Ali, who beat Foreman, who beat Moorer, who beat Holyfield, who beat Tyson.

True but Glenn Hughes is still my top guy in the Purple family, only saw him once about 4 years ago and head and shoulders above the rest, although I still have to see Graham Bonnet live, with this pandemic who knows?

Mike Tyson had better charisma, a better "fear factor", he was preferred by boxing fans, he was more popular than Larry Holmes. But he didn't have a better career.

Glenn is incredible. Last I talked to him, Bonnet said he's having trouble with the Alcatrazz name, the band split up and now there are two versions of the band lol.

There's a fair case to be made that Tyson's prime career was better than Holmes's prime career. But then they diverged upon exiting their primes, and Holmes is getting credit here for not having trashed his own career, for not having self destructed, for his slow decline.

I guess a good question is how much of Holmes's generally high ranking is propped up by his senior career? For generally having maximized what he could accomplish? How much is Tyson hurt by NOT living up to what he could have accomplished? He could have stayed in the form he was in when he beat Spinks for years, would probably have a fair claim to #1 GOAT had he done that.

The best ding I can come up with on Holmes not maximizing his potential would be not controlling his weight as he got older. He came so close to being the oldest title holder ever -- might he have pulled it off had he showed up at 220 instead of 245 (or whatever he was by then)? Possibly, but who knows. He fought pretty flat footed by that age anyway, maybe the extra weight was helping him keep some snap in the punches.
