Sonny wasn’t called Big Daddy, his nick was the Big Ugly Bear. It’s okay, I knew you who you really meant. After destroying Bowe, Sonny might well say “Who’s your Daddy?” Sonny then becomes “Big Daddy’s Daddy” or usurps Bowe as “Big Daddy” relegating Riddick to “Son of Big Daddy”. So many permutations to consider. Don’t worry folks, I’m kidding around and am not so glib re the comparison - I’d give Liston the edge but totally appreciate the argument from the other corner.
Very tricky, as Bowe never got hit by a puncher as powerful as Cleveland Williams in the pros. Liston was rocked quite a few times but came back to pound the yee haw out of him. Twice. Of course, Liston was stopped by Ali in the first fight, but that seemed to be as much about profound frustration as getting beat to the punch all day. I have to give it to Liston, who finished a fight with a broken jaw, etc. Bowe did have a really good chin though, Lewis hit him huge shots and he was still dancing around and waving his hands in the air, looked fine to me.
I think Herbie Hide could really bang and he nailed Bowe a few times and Riddick just kept walking him down and staying in his face. That said a lot to me.
I’m not sure of the best way to reply to your obvious ambivalence. Then again, on one hand I can see what you’re saying but on the other hand I’m not sure if you’re saying anything at all. Does any of this really matter? I looked for the cop out radio button selection - but alas, there isn’t one. Time to intellectualise: Liston was def. scarier therefore his chin was better. Nuff said! Liston was stopped three times..................Bowe never plus Bowe fought full size Heavyweights..........................Gonzales beat both Bowe and Lewis in the Amateurs , ko'ed a bunch of stiffs in the pro's and was absolutely ragdolled by Bowe.................Gonzales is a duplicate of cream puff Williams, put a bunch of cans to sleep but got raped the moment he stepped up. Bowe has far the better chin by a country mile.....................and this I really like to rub in every time , Bowe never ever quit no matter how tough the going went, absolute fact.
