Pernell Whitaker vs Vasyl Lomachenko

Offensively, Loma

I give the edge offensively to Lomachenko, but career success goes to Pernell Whitaker, Lomachenko hasn’t beaten a iconic name yet, while Pernell has, Pernell won Olympic gold, was undisputed lightweight Champion since Roberto Duran and won world titles in 4 different weight classes. To say that Lomachenko could do what Pernell could do is absurd. Pernell had a very flexible waist and strong hips like a squirrel and could read punches, we hadn’t seen no one as slick since Nicolino Loche, he’s the only one come close to doing what Whitaker did. Unlike Roy Jones and James Toney who did Steroids, Nicolino Loche and Pernell Whitaker both drunk a lot of beer but they didn’t do Steroids. Lomachenko looks more choreographed, coordinated and robotic which means it’s probably more technique then natural skills, while Pernell Whitaker and Nicolino Loche looks far more fluid, obviously it’s technique but it’s more of natural skill also. When Pernell Whitaker wanted to be aggressive, he could as evident in his fight against Rafael Pineda, Harold Brazier, Santos Cardona , keep in mind an old Rafael Pineda gave Zab Judah and Corey Spinks a run for their money, Harold Brazier outboxed Hall of Famer Mickey Ward and Santos Cardona beat Livingston Bramble who twice defeated hall of famer Ray Mancini, Pernell Whitaker dominated all those guys I named. Rafael Pineda said that Roger Mayweather was a good defensive fighter but against Pernell Whitaker, that was a whole another level he never seen before.

Offensively I give Lomachenko the edge but career wise and defensively, I give Pernell Whitaker the edge, Pernell Whitaker won a gold medal, was the Undisputed light weight champion and a champion in 4 weight classes, Lomachenko has yet to beat an iconic name, and to say Lomachenko could do what Whitaker could do is absurd, Pernell Whitaker had a very flexible waist and strong hips like a squirrel. The only person who comes close is Nicolino Loche. Nicolino Loche could also stand in the pocket and make you miss with his hands at his waist. Unlike Roy Jones Jr. and James Toney who did Steroids, Pernell Whitaker and Nicolino Loche just drunk a lot of beer. But Pernell Whitaker is the slickest boxer since Nicolino Loche.

Lomachenko is slick but it looks more Choreographed, Coordinated and robotic looking which means it’s more technique than natural skills, obviously Nicolino Loche and Pernell Whitaker did use technique but they look more Fluid and smooth which means it’s more Natural Skills. Pernell Whitaker could be aggressive when he wanted to examples against Rafael Pineda, Harold Brazier and Santos Cardona. Rafael Pineda did give Zab Judah and Corey Spinks. Harold Brazier did beat Hall of Famer Mickey Ward, and Santos Cardona beat Livingston Bramble who twice beat hall of Famer Ray Mancini. Pernell Whitaker dominated all those guys. Don’t get me wrong Lomachenko has great offensive abilities but we need to pump the brakes on Lomachenko until he gets more accolades. Floyd Mayweather has the accolades but Lomachenko don’t . Nobody put on defensive shows like Pernell Whitaker and Nicolino Loche, Lomachenko is close but he ain’t them. Floyd does it different, he’s not concerned about the ring show but instead about the show outside the ring because it sells tickets, so Floyd is more like Gene Roddenberry and Bill Gates, and Pernell Whitaker is more like George Lucas and Steve Jobs. Because you to take risk to do what Pernell Whitaker and Nicolino Loche while at the same time being slick enough to pull it off. Zab Judah tried it but he wasn’t slick enough, Rigondeaux who normally extremely disciplined on a rare occasion even tried it against that Asian guy and got knock down but he was smart enough not to try it again, since Rigondeax even said that Pernell Whitaker was his favorite boxer.

Lomachenko's amateur boxing record is far superior to Pernell Whitaker's pro boxing record.

Also

Lomachenko's amateur boxing PLUS pro boxing record COMBINED is FAR SUPERIOR to Whitaker's amateur boxing PLUS pro boxing record.

So in terms of accolades, Lomachenko has Whitaker beat in many departments.

As for boxing skills, I've already stated Whitaker had the more flexible waist. That's pretty much all he can do that Lomachenko is comparably inferior to. Otherwise, Lomachenko is either better or equal in every other department.

Lomachenko is also the overall superior athlete, not just the better technician. Lomachenko can do handstand push-ups, can juggle multiple balls simultaneously, can dance and do other gymnastic moves. I've never seen Whitaker show athleticism to such an extent..

Heck, if you want to talk about upper body flexibility and slickness as the holy grail, Prince Naseem Hamed is superior to Pernell Whitaker. He makes Pernell look choreographed and robotic in comparison. The angles, the flips, the raw power and speed are all natural talent, that even Whitaker could only dream of. But that's besides the point!

In many ways, Whitaker was a poor man's Prince Naseem Hamed that relied on athleticism and limited sound technique. Lomachenko is both textbook in technique + athletic.

Lomachenko lost to Salido, Teofimo Lopez and didn't even look impressive against second rate champion Linares.

First this is a pro boxing forum bringing up amateur records is irrelevant when talking about pro boxing success. You can't make a case for loma having a better pro career so you bring up amateur to try and make it seem like loma is greater than pea, hilarious.

Second pea whitaker has loma beat in some departments your waist comment was dumb comparing pea to Hamed was disgraceful and ban worthy. You say loma is a better technician based on what??? Refusing to engage a green lopez losing to salido a guy with over a dozen loses??? Pea whitaker wouldn't lose to salido and wouldn't lose to teo. He would've clowned and schooled both. I don't think loma beats Chavez who's too rugged and too good for him. There's no one on lomas resume that pea wouldn't have schooled. Pea>Loma.

 

I'd actually lean towards Loma via a very tight 115-113 UD.

I can see Sweat Pea doing well the first 4 rounds, then Loma can adjust, this is when it gets competitive til the end. Very close.

 

Chavez would beat the **** out of Lomachenko.

 

And Trinidad would send him to the morgue
