Last fight you watched?

Duran Leonard 1 was on the tele the other day, was surprised the commentators had it so close, had it 9-6 Duran could’ve been 10-5

 

I watched Basilio vs Saxton 2 earlier in the day.

 

Shannon Briggs vs Francois Botha and probably an unpopular opinion but I thought Briggs edged it.

 

Marquez--Vasquez 2. all time great fight w/ a quick stoppage.

Just watched George Foreman v Gerry Cooney.The walk on`s and introductions lasted longer than the fight

 

Hard to believe that some were taking Cooney serious at the time, with a couple actually saying Cooney wins by ko!
Ironically it was the fight where Foreman started getting taken seriously and a threat to the big names.
Strange how people s minds work.

 

Botha/Briggs Botha/Moorer are both good scraps worth watching IMO if your ever bored.

 

At the time George was considered still a fat old man who beat up a bunch of opponent types on a circus sideshow of a comeback (with wildly inconsistent Bert Cooper and hefty non-heavyweight Dwight Qawi being the only wins of any note whatsoever).

It was seen as a cash-in fight for both, get the old guys together and fleece the public for this odd spectacle. Cooney was at least younger and could bang, had Gil Clancy training him.

It’s not so much that people took Cooney seriously — they didn’t take either seriously. But it was an intriguing matchup. No result at the time would have been considered preposterous. Even boxing insiders didn’t really know what to make of either.

It’s a lot easier with hindsight, knowing what George would go on to accomplish and that Cooney would get KO’d here and hang them up yet again, but at the time both were just curiosities.

 

Strange thing is tho, he was only taken seriously after ko in Cooney, who let's be honest, was done.
Now for me, beating Alex Stewart showed how tough and dangerous he was.

 

Ibeabuchi vs Calvin Jones. had never seen it. guy was scary.

 

I think the real thing is that fight made it clear that old Foreman was marketable and there was viewer interest.

Two fights later he was on HBO against Adilson Rodriguez and that gave a stamp of approval that he was to be taken seriously, at least to some degree.
