Who wins this matchup in a 12 rounder? I personally think Foreman would win. Its always a possibility that Louis could hurt him with a mean combination, but I think Foreman's iron chin would take some of those combinations, and keep coming. Its also not hard to catch Louis and if Foreman connects with one of those sledgehammers, it could be the end for Joe.
Joe Louis would punch off George Foreman's face. Punch it right off. Do an uppercut. Punch his beard off.
Louis would be off to a good start, his edge in speed and technique would allow him to get off some good shots but George will connect with his bombs sooner or later and if its tit for tat I can only see one Winner. Foreman KO.
I went with Louis by KO, but by no means would that be a foregone conclusion. This is about as dangerous of a fight as anyone can come up with.
That’s true but neither did Foreman. The biggest hold up with me favoring foreman is that his defense was not that good in 1973 while Louis has very fast hands and accurate combinations
Foreman KO in 7. I used to say Louis by KO, but now after fully studying both of them & their styles, I think Foreman has more advantages in this match-up. Louis doesn't have the size, strength or durability to keep a powerful Foreman off him. Whenever Louis looks to open up offensively, Foreman will just push, shove, parry & redirect Louis into the direction he wants. Louis will also have Foreman's stiff jab to deal with, & as he doesn't have the best head-movement or footwork, he'll be on the receiving end of some heavy artillery. Although a Louis victory is possible, this is a bad match for Louis overall.
It could go either way, but I'd heavily favor Louis. He was much more versatile fighter and far more accurate puncher. Foreman jab could be problematic, but Louis had ATG jab himself. I also don't think Foreman had enough advantage in physical strength to push Louis around. Joe was very strong physically, he proved it in many fights.
I am aware of the class of both fighters, but I think that Louis has significant style advantage. Of course I can be 100% wrong and in this case, Foreman would have perfect chances to win. Even if my opinion about styles would be wrong, I still would take Louis over Cleveland Williams easily. That's not the case here though.
Close match but I see Louis standing there and punching inside Foreman's swings and those adding up faster. That's how I feel now. Louis KO10
I see it being an uphill battle for Louis to match Foreman strength for strength. Foreman would have a significant edge here IMO. What advantages do you think Louis has over Foreman?
Much quicker hands, better defense and comparable jab. If Foreman proved his jab to be better, then it would be tough for Louis. If not, then I don't see Foreman beating Louis to the punch.
A lot of points to consider here, but one I'd like to consider one specifically: Louis was a technical wonder with religious devotion to his stance and surgical rhythm. People who beat him (Walcott unofficially; Schmelling) made him deviate or break one or both of those (on top, of course, of multiple other factors contributing to one fighter prevailing over the other.) Max utilized meticulous range manipulation and clever angles, constantly being either too far, or too close to be hit, as well as spoiling Louis with negative tactics. Walcott on the other hand preyed on Louis' tempo, constantly breaking his rhythm, attacking on a half-beat, and staggering suddenly to befuddle Louis. Foreman being able to clinch and more importantly frame and displace Louis like a well designed robot he was can prove to be an effective tactic against Joe who would be forced to realign and readjust his posture again.
