You should watch more Finito. The man was a true master. One of the best skilled fighters of all time, and arguably the most skilled Mexican fighter ever. He does everything better than Gonzalez. A fighter that did everything extremely well who was very athletic, and extremely skilled.
People who rank Lopez higher than Gonzalez are only rating him based on his aesthetic boxing style, 0 Loss, and amount of title defenses. Gonzalez, at his best, was every bit as good, if not even better than Lopez H2H. He has more quality wins and actually dared to be great by moving up 4 weight classes and being the man in almost every weight class he's fought in. He arguably beat everyone he's fought as well. Again, I'll take wins over Estrada, Cuadras, Yaegashi, Yafai, Sosa over Alvarez, Sorjaturong, Sanchez, Vorapin.
I've seen plenty of Finito. He isn't arguably the most skilled Mexican ever. Miguel Canto and Vicente Salvidar laugh at the idea. And he doesn't do everything better than Gonzalez, don't kid yourself. Gonzlalez survived a brutal war with Rungvisai, who hit harder than Lopez by several leagues. Lopez isn't stopping him.
I've seen plenty of Finito and consider myself a fan of his. His uppercut KO of Villamor and 1-2 KO of Preecha was a thing of beauty. Also think his performance against Alex Sanchez was his finest showing. But it's easy to look dominant and have multiple title defenses over scrubs. He arguably lost to Alvarez in their first fight. To say that he's arguably the most skilled Mexican fighter is absolute hogwash. Guys like Chavez, Sanchez, Saldivar, Canto, Napoles (if you count him as a Mexican) were far more skilled than Lopez. It's incredible how much people nowadays are severely overrating Lopez H2H and achievement wise just based on his style and reputation. I can't tell you how annoying it gets whenever I hear people say that Lopez is this "perfect" "unbeatable" fighter when he's really not.
Let’s be honest, other than looking magnificent against uninspired competition in his division his resume is very weak. Outside of his beautiful boxing skills his resume lacks real quality wins despite his “dominance” over a division that’s pretty much a barren wasteland. Had he fought the likes of Chiquita, Carbajal, Arbachakov, or Too Sharp and beat them all Lopez would have had a huge case of being the greatest small men. He had the size and frame to move up in weight and fight those guys but chose not to. I'll say this again, people rate Lopez higher simply because of his clean style, skills, 0 Loss, 21 title defenses over scrubs, and this myth of him being this unbeatable boxing God.
Chocolatito’s big wins includes: Juan Francisco Estrada Francisco Rodriguez Jr Akira Yaegashi Edgar Sosa Brian Viloria McWlliams Arroyo Carlos Cuadras Kal Yafai Julio Cesar Martinez Very impressive resume.
I agree, a Lopez Gonzalez fight would be a dream match but Lopez won't KO Gonzalez, to stop Chocolatito you have to simply have the size and overpower his skills. Lopez doesn't fight like that.
He wasn't, though. Skill encompasses all facets, and Lopez's inside game was amateurish compared to Morales'.
