I miss Lampley so much. Yo, a part of boxing has died without him calling big fights with immaculate production supporting him. "Big left hook!!!". "Vitali Klitschko is roughing Lennox Lewis up in the 2nd round". "Oh what an uppercut!!!". All with intense passion and love for the sport of boxing. Not exaggerating there were numerous times where I was about to jump through the TV in excitement.
OVERRATED. only good when he was with foreman and larry merchant or roy jones in the early 2000s and 1990s. He sucked when he was with (((kellerman))) and old roy jones
I do miss Jim, and Larry Merchant. And Roy Jones on commentary. I don't miss Max Kellerman, but as a commentary team the HBO crew as a whole was far better than any other commentary team in boxing since HBO closed its doors in 2018.
The greatest boxing commentator of all time, bar none. The raw emotion he brought to HBO broadcasts was clearly very appealing to a guy like me, since I have a similar temperament and passion. Anyone who doesn't get that, is dead inside.
What I liked most about his broadcasting is that he knew a lot about the fighters he was calling. You don’t see that with Tessitore, Brian Kenney, or Todd Grisham. Fights don’t feel as big without HBO and that broadcasting crew.
Absolutely awful. Thank goodness I never have to hear "hard right hand" (mostly never landing) again.
he was a good voice to make boxing more exciting when calling it and added extra drama but he also would say dumb stuff, and wrong facts he wasnt a boxing historian he was just a play by play guy.
Ok but why is that a problem? Like you said he was a play by play. He doesnt need to be the most knowledgable historian. He did a great job getting everybody to enjoy the fight and call the action as it unfolded. Which you know, him being the play by play was his job.
