Oh sure. Tell me have you seen Jack Taylor, Gypsey Daniels, and Steve Hamas fight? The ones I don't recognize are the numerous draws such as Max Dikeman, and the loss to Jack Taylor to name a few and neither do you. Jeffries was better than these guys. If you don't think so there is little reason to correspond to you.

Jeffries looks vulnerable to right hands on the grainy footage of the Ruhlin fight, but we know he had a top chin.A case can be made for either man imo.I don't think I would bet on this fight.

Schmeling lost against Jack Taylor when he was 19 years old. He avenged that loss two years later.

Steve Hamas was a number one contender who drew a series against Tommy Loughran. Yes, I've seen his fight against Schmeling - everybody who have any idea about this era know this...
You are using his fights from the time when he was teenager, that's ridiculous.

Maybe start focusing on a time when Schmeling was actually a HW instead?
Sure, Jeffries was better than these guys. Jeffries didn't have any fights recorded at Schmeling's age when he lost to Taylor. Young Jeffries drew with novice Ruhlin and Choynski. Are they better than Schmeling? If you think so, then there is little reason to correspond to you.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, it is hard to say really.

We have enough quality footage of Schmeling, that we could rebuild him from the ground up.

Jeffries is a less known quantity.

Jeffries retired undefeated. He Ko'd Ruhlin, he was flat on his back and saved by the bell and " drew " with a much more experienced Choynski whom he floored 2-3 times when he was very young, not an easy guy for your 5th fights or so.

Schemling was a small sub 200 pounder, right in line with who Jeffries beat. Every single historian says Jeffries was higher ranked on their list. You know it, and so do I. I believe Jeffries turned pro at age 20, 1 year older than Max loss to Taylor.

I was talking about the loss, but thanks I have not seen this. What about the other names, have you seen them?

IMHO, I'd go with James J. Jeffries. I don't think Max Schmeling could figure out Jim Jeffries any better than he figured out Max Baer. And the rule set favors Jeffries. Maybe I could get a bet with Fergy on this one?

Max takes him to school and forces a mercy stoppage after 10.

For those who care about this sort of thing, their contemporaries and those who saw both of them fight both seemed to think far more highly of Jeffries…

Schmeling beat a prime Louis, he toys with Jeffries.

He also drew with Ruhlin, who was novice himself.

That's my point - why can't we just compare their wins and losses when they actually were in their primes? Schmeling lost 4 fights during his relevant HW career - robbery against Sharkey, KO loss against Baer, decision loss against Hamas and rematch against Louis. It's fair to criticize him for Baer or Hamas losses, not the ones you mentioned.
That's lazy as hell. Weight alone means nothing.
Yeah, which is why it's pointless to bring up Taylor loss.
I could be wrong, but I think I have seen his fight a clip from the other of his fights. Can't find it for now though, so maybe I mistook it with different fight.

I know you don't care about this sort of thing - who would you take here? Finally a matchup you're willing to take Schmeling? ;)

Inclined to pick Schmeling, but the early ‘00s rule set is sort of a wild card.

Based on the Baer fight and rematch with louis, and questionable call over Sharkey, something tells me Schmeling is not up to a match with an undefeated great like Jeffries and is tkod well before 20
