Povetkin's swan song. We will see in the future how many heavyweights will succeed, so many years will be first-class heavyweights. For the vast majority, Povetkin's legacy is just a dream.

To be fair, had Povetkin landed that exact same perfectly timed punch in the exact way he did on Whyte, I think it KO's most current ( and probably past) heavyweights.

    That was a beauty alright!
But you have to get the chance to land it first of course.

Agreed mate. Whyte never saw it coming, and to be honest nor did I when I was watching live

Possibly the best timed, intended and delivered shot of Povetkin's career.

If he retires without claiming all of the titles and unifying, he will always be a “what if” or a “might have”. In other words there will always be questions. He needs more scalps…. Whyte, then AJ, then Usyk, would solidly his dominance of this era.

Tyson Fury vs Usyk will be like the guy who tuned his Ford Mustang in his father's back garden vs a Formula One team

The Fury's are not the boxing savants that people think they are. They're hard men who learned the trade by being bullies and learning to fight in a field day in and day out whilst growing up.

Unfinished business with AJ and Usyk so he cannot be ranked the best of his era. He is talking ****. Win or lose he is not retiring yet.

If Fury beats Whyte and retires he’ll make the HOF. But as far as hall of famers go his legacy will be rather thin. He beat an Old Wlad by a snooze fest maybe landing 2-3 more punches a round and never gave the old man a rematch. Beat a big punching heavyweight with 0 skill 3x in a row. Although officially one was a draw. And a top 5 contender in Whyte should he win. He also beat fringe contender Chisora and Wallin.
Honestly it’s not much. Dethroning Wlad was huge and the fact that at one point or another he held all the belts. He gets in. But anyone saying he has a great legacy is deluding themselves. It’s nowhere near many top guys like Wlad, Lewis, Tyson, Holyfield, - and that’s just last 35 years top guys. He’ll fall more in the Bowe, Vitali, range imo.

Fair bit depends on what happens with Wilder, if he fights on and gets starched by a fringe contender in his next fight or something like that it only really leaves old Wlad as his sole good win with Chisora, Whyte and Wallin as decent scalps behind that, would be a very average legacy to be honest.

    His best wins -

    Wlad at 39
    Wilder
    Whyte

The fact that he was largely dominant over these wins means a lot.

I'd like to see him fight Joshua and Usyk though. If he bought both of these he'd be top 10 HW's definitely

In the end, it seems that Fury resume is weak, because Wilder resume is weak.
Tyson Fury is not the director of boxing organizations.

Meh, it’s currently perceived as a good win, but let’s be real Wilder was a heavily protected champion and if he were to get starched in his next fight it would become a couple of wins against an overhyped belt holder, decent win but won’t help Fury’s legacy much.

yeah I think that’s the point some people are making, how good even is/was Wilder? If Fury really wants to be in the ATG convo he needs a couple more scalps to seal it.

like, he needs to stack up against ATG HWs like Lennox for example as the most recent and he’s not even close if he retires after fighting Whyte.
